Wholly cow I can't believe how complete openoffice is. I should be able to
switch away from M$ Indenture completely if things keep improving.

My half-hour tour finds only one musthave. My group requires circle symbols on
the point charts (scatter plots). They need black outlines and white or colored
centers. Annoying, I know. But, scientific journals often require this too, so
it might be extra worth adding ;-)

Hi Falko,

can't find a double so this is one for you.

Comment 2 klimass 2002-11-28 05:58:56 UTC
The default selection of 8 symbols is really somewhat insufficient.
The pictures from the "galery" are great for business, but they are
not acceptable for some uses.

Some additional symbols one could desire:
+ x (crosses of two types)
- | (lines)
* (a star of any type).

Cheers!

Yes, we are missing some typical symbols here and should improve that -> accepted.
But you can workaround missing built-in symbols:
- In a line or scatter chart open the data series properties dialog
- choose the line tabpage
- press the selet button to select the icon
- choose a symbol from the gallery or bitmap from a file
With choosing a bitmap from a file you are free to choose any symbol you like,
so I lower the prio for this feature to 4.

I agree with klimass.

The current selection is unacceptable for scientific use. Circles in particular
are needed.

You can work around it using the symbols from File or Gallery, but I really need
plain filled and unfilled circles in a vector format so they scale well for
reproduction. The option to choose a colour should also be included.

I need circles, too. I'm glad I saw this bug, though. I'd been using very
small diamonds to approximate circles, but now I know I can use an SVG file
instead. You can make the SVG circle any size or color or linewidth or opacity
you want, and it will render nicely.

I have pushed a patch to trunk by revision r1340555 and commit log "Add missing chart data point ODF1.2 standard symbols" which adds new standard symbols.

This issue can be closed after next release.

The standard symbols in ODF have no way to distinguish between "filled" and "not filled". Therefore I add the circle only in a filled version.

If you need unfilled data point markers do this:
Make an empty folder for your new markers.
Create your favorite marker in Draw.
Export it to file type "svm", that is (StarView Metafile), into the empty folder.
Make sure you have writing rights on the Gallery folder.
Inside AOO open the Gallery.
Right click category Bullets, click item Properties.
Goto dialog page Files.
Click button "Find files" and select your new folder. OK.
The list shows all pictures, which can be used from that folder.
Click on your marker file and then on button ADD.

In the data point properties of the chart click on Icon Select and then Gallery. It shows the content of the category Bullets. You should find your marker there. Because it is svm format the transparency are retained and so you can have unfilled markers.

To get such markers in the default installation is a very different task and need a new bug report. Please write a new bug report, if you want this feature.

Seems to be not integrated into AOO 4.x
Comment 21 Regina Henschel 2015-01-06 15:05:03 UTC
Circle is the 9. from top. The preview is tiny, therefore it looks bad. When you use it and zoom in, you will notice, that it is indeed a circle.

Thanks Regina
So, this issue is fixed now.
