Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 36470
Provide navigation buttons to go back and forth between bookmark
Last modified: 2004-11-02 23:27:12 UTC
In a document, user could click on links to go to different area in a page (bookmark). It would be great if this list can be stored and provide buttons for users to click back, forward in this list. Please consider link inside the doc and link to outside of the doc.
If this feature already exist, please make it very easy to locate, and access it.
Use the navigator. Either the big one (provides List & jump) or the mini-navigator (jumps forwards/backwards). (bookmarks & hyperlinks) worksforme. activate navigator using <F5> (or Edit|Navigator or toolbar-button) show mini-navigator by clicking on the circle below the vertical scrollbar (or by clicking the circle in the "big" navigator) Help index: "navigating;in documents" or topic: "Text Documents -> General -> Command & Menu Reference -> Edit -Menu -> Navigator"
Reopened.
To me this more sounds if the user requests a "hyperlink history" for the Writer, like it is available in Web Browsers. reassigned to BH.
The up and down buttons seem to go up and down 1 page at a time, not going according to the hyperlink history. The small navigator's up and down buttons does not seem to do anything (this is another issue). What I want is going through hyperlink history feature. For example, if you have a table of content, click on an entry, it will jump to that. Next, click back on a button to go back to the previous viewed page, it will go back to the table of content. Same for bookmark or links within a page.
It was a misunderstanding from my part. I thought you want to jump to the bookmarks you defined in the document, or to jump to the hyperlinks you created. This can be done using the navigator (the big navigator lists the bookmars and hyperlinks, just double-click and the cursor will jump to the hyperlink/bookmark) For the mini-navigator to do something, you have to select the desired object first (either choose graphics to jump from graphic to graphic, select headings to jump from heading to heading, select bookmark to jump from bookmark to bookmark, etc. But you probably want to go back to where you came from (as mru guessed). Have a look at issue 5608 You can use markers (in combination with navigator) as a workaround. -> duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 5608 ***

Please add this feature and closed that issue (5608). This seems to be very simple to implement. Just have a 2 way list and an index. If click on a link, then discard everything in the list after the index, and add this link/position into it. If click back, then decrease the index, and point the page to the new location. Other works also include enable and disable the buttons when it's empty, begin of list (disable go back), end of list (disable go forward). If I am familiar with open office, I can add that in a few minutes.
