Open Calc, make a selection, run Preview and close preview. Now You are back in
document, but selection is gone (nothing is selected).

Able to replicate the issue  in oo m65 version

Page preview replaces the normal view and stores only the same view settings
that are also saved with the file. The selection is not part of that.
This should be type "enhancement" (see internal #108238#).
