Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 37679
need option to place endnotes not at end of document
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:55 UTC
The formatting guidelines for APA style submissions specify the following order for the sections in a document: title page abstract text references appendixes author note footnotes/endnotes <--- tables figure captions figures There is currently no way to utilize the endnote function in such a paper if it is to also include any of the last three listed sections. This combined with the inability to place a heading on the first page of the endnotes section (another outstanding issue) make OOo less than ideal for academic purposes. Provision should be made to place Endnotes at an arbitrary location ala Insert->Tables and Indexes.
This would be a valuable enhancement. Same behaviour in global documents. So, no workaraounf to this for now
I'll just point out that _The Chicago Manual of Style_ (12 edition) lists the sequence for backmatter as being: Appendix End notes Glossary Bibliography Index Colophon Submitting book manuscripts to publishers, with the pages out of sequence doesn't look very professional. This is a sorely needed enhancement, for professional writers.
For the Bibliographic project I would also support this proposal. As a suggestion for implementation. Currently the Insert->Section->Footnotes/Endnotes panel has an option for Endnotes 'Collect at End of Section'. Perhaps there could be an option 'Collect all the document's Endnotes at the end of this section'. Only one section in a document could have these setting. This would allow to create a section for the Endnotes wherever they like.
Created attachment 40098 [details] Draft Specifications for Writer enhancement to support user selectable Endnote and Footnote location.
