Description Frank Schönheit 2002-04-02 13:22:30 UTC
When sending a mail to an Issuezilla mailing list (for example,
users@openoffice.org), which contain a valid reply-to field (for example:
dev@dba.openoffice.org), this field is exchanged with the address of the list
itself.
This makes it extremly difficult (up to: impossible) to move people to the right
list. Just inviting the people by saying "please discuss this in
qa@b.openoffice.org" is simply not enough - nobody will do. As a result, lists
become overcrowsed by the time, whilest others (such as dev@dba :) stay nearly
empty, though there would be enough to discuss there ...

I understand the reason why ezlm inserts a reply-to if none is present, but I
stronlgy suggest that it should not touch any existing reply-to's, the more if
they are directed to yet another openoffice mailing list.

This enhancement has been requested by some other customers too. Our
product management currently moved the target milestone to "plan -
truckee 3". I have added additional information to PCN 7105 about
this issue.
Next Update: Will update as soon as i get additional information on
this.

According to the status whiteboard entry this issue is planned or targeted for
Danube.
In preparation of the upgrade we should see a confirmation that the issues will
be resolved in CEE 3.5.1.
Please set the target milestone accordingly.
Comment 10 Unknown 2006-04-17 21:35:29 UTC
It is not addressed in Danube.
This is targeted for inclusion in the New Discussion Services (few releases
down). Once we get the confirmation that this feature is already included in
that, we will again mark is as RECOLVED->LATER.

The new DS has 3 options for managing the Reply-To field of outbound
notifications:

1. Reply-to sender
2. Reply-to list
3. Reply-to other email address (could be another forum/list)

Also the

- Reply-to may be set on a per-forum basis to be Reply-to-user, Reply-to-forum
or Reply-email-address
- Reply-to may be overridden on web postings to reply to user or to list.

Based on this details provided we are resolving this issue as resolved fixed.
Comment 12 stx123 2006-09-05 12:36:04 UTC
The mentioned options are all fine. But this issue asks for an option to leave
the reply-to header untouched.
AFAICS this is (yet) implemented.

Stefan ,
You are correct the original request to not changing the reply-to header if
there already one set in the mail is something i need to check in the discussion
forum . Let me have a look at the current implementation for DS and get back to
you with the details .

This request is actually a two-part from what i could gather :

The ezmlm doesn't inserts a reply-to if none is present also it should not touch
any existing reply-to's.

1) This can done in the current EZMLM setting itself . Need clarification on two
points .

        i) Do you need this setting done for a particular mailing list or set of
mailing list or the entire site as a whole .

Answer needed from 0o: Stefan or the community leaders to reply back for this
question .

ii) The community fully understands the consequence of performing such a
operation .

Answer needed from Oo: Stefan or the community leaders to reply back for this
question

iii)Whether if we perform this changes to a list/lists/whole site would the
same be retained while migrating to Discussion Forum .

Answer from collab: This is a point which shall we taken care in the migration
to the new tool .

2) The reply-to should not be changed if they are directed to yet another
openoffice mailing list.

Answer from collab:This setting can/could be performed in the current mailing
list and would be retained in migration to the new DF tool .

st: ping

Worse than replacing the reply-to header, It *adds* another reply-to header to
mails already containing a valid one, creating invalid messages that are
rejected by some gateways.

The most non-disturbing solution would be to not replace the Reply-To, but if
configured to use one:
* Add it only if not present
* *Append* the list if there is already a reply-to header

Comment 19 Unknown 2007-08-28 05:55:52 UTC
Confirmed that the migration to the new Discussion Service would be taking into
the factor the below points :

* Add it only if not present
* *Append* the list if there is already a reply-to header

However after the completion of the migration we would like the project owners
or moderators of their respective list to check the validity of their list as
part of their testing .

Moving this issue to the resolved later queue .

Hi

This feature is fixed in Rubicon and I have verified the same on a test box
carrying the latest version. I shall close this case for now. Please feel free
to re-open, if the functionality does not satisfy your expectation when site
gets upgraded to Rubicon version of CEE.

Regards,
Vathsan
Support Operations.
Comment 21 Unknown 2008-02-26 20:57:41 UTC
Re-opening the issue.
Comment 22 Unknown 2008-02-26 20:58:00 UTC
Marking the issue as Resolved LATER.
Comment 23 Unknown 2009-01-23 07:43:12 UTC
CollabNet Support is currently reviewing the issues under Resolved-Later. If the
issues are fixed currently in any of the present CEE releases, then it will be
marked as Resolved-Fixed.

There might be a few issues which might not be in our future roadmap which might
be closed as Wontfix unless it does not lie under any custom request.
Comment 24 Unknown 2009-01-23 07:43:49 UTC
Marking it as fixed since it is available in CEE 5.0
