error message we get: "Premature EOF from server" the tunnel is up and running.
reassigned to taska
I've requested that our operations team take a look (PCN8987).
Our operations group reports that they are puzzled. We use cvsup to keep our anoncvs server up-to-date, and it's working fine there. We're wondering if it's a network thing. Stefan, are you getting this error right away, or after some downloading? Can you send us a traceroute from you to the cvsup server?
we get the error immidiatly, no data transferred. traceroute to openoffice.org (64.125.132.236), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 router-172.stardiv.de (172.17.2.6) 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 2 wolf-2055-3.stardiv.de (172.17.2.254) 0 ms 0 ms 0 ms 3 * * * 4 cisco-telekom.stardiv.de (62.156.160.62) 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 5 HH-ag1.HH.net.DTAG.DE (194.25.7.45) 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 6 NYC-gw12.USA.net.DTAG.DE (62.156.131.130) 81 ms 81 ms 81 ms 7 194.25.6.34 (194.25.6.34) 81 ms 81 ms 81 ms 8 pos2-0-2488M.cr1.JFK1.gblx.net (64.214.65.213) 81 ms 81 ms 81 ms 9 pos1-0-622M.cr2.SFO1.gblx.net (206.132.110.126) 156 ms 156 ms 156 ms 10 pos1-0-0-155M.ar1.SFO1.gblx.net (206.132.110.138) 156 ms 156 ms 156 ms 11 InterNAPSanFrancisco.pos10-0-0.ar1.SFO1.gblx.net (64.209.88.54) 155 ms 168 ms 160 ms 12 border3.ge2-0-bbnet1.sfo.pnap.net (63.251.63.7) 155 ms 155 ms 155 ms 13 br2-ge2-3-sfo.collab.net (64.125.132.18) 158 ms 158 ms 157 ms 14 63.251.56.136 (63.251.56.136) 158 ms 158 ms 157 ms 15 ar2-fe3-1-sfo.collab.net (64.125.132.91) 159 ms 158 ms 159 ms 16 cr2-ge2-2-sfo.collab.net (64.125.132.13) 158 ms 158 ms 158 ms 17 d1r2-ge2-1-sfo.collab.net (64.125.132.34) 160 ms 160 ms 160 ms 18 openoffice.org (64.125.132.236) 158 ms 158 ms 159 ms
Thanks Stefan. I'm coordinating with the operations team to troubleshoot further.
I've gotten more feedback from ops on how to troubleshoot this. Could you do the following: 1. Log into the tunnel server 2. 'telnet localhost 5999' on the tunnel server (if you are using 5999 on the local machine as well; otherwise substitute your port as necessary). Do you get a valid cvsup response here? 3. Run your normal cvsup client with the '-L 2' option for debugging, and send us the output. Thanks!
telnet to port 5999 on localhost gives me a : "Name or service not known: No such file or directory"

Martin, how would you like to go forward?
fast, reassigned to taska
Okay, I've sent this info on to the ops folks, thanks. Martin: when you did telnet to port 5999 on localhost, was that on your cvsup server, or on your local machine? What kind of machine is your cvsup server? (I can't get my linux box to return that error at all. My errors all begin with telnet:.)
I'm doing the telnet to port 5999 on the host where the tunnel has been established. It's a Linux 2.2.16 box with OpenSSH 2.2.1 running. The configuration hasn't changed in the last years.
We're still not sure why cvsup would be working with the anoncvs server, but not the remote server.... But we have made a change in the cvsup server configuration that should make ssh a bit more friendly. Please test to see if cvsup is working now.
cvsup works again, thanks. Do I have to ask you/myself what the change was?
Our operations group apparently, at some point, upgraded SSH on that machine without telling us- or possibly even each other (the SSH version on that machine was known to have a security exploit). Apparently, during the upgrade, some configuration got changed, which they restored. So yes, the problem was miscommunication on our side. I apologize for that.
verified.
close issue.
