Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 40744
WW8: Row break in table (in textbox) shown as special character
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:25:53 UTC
The word document looks fine in MS Word, but the graphical object on page 11 is obsuring text - it shuld be absolutly positioned on the next page - looks fine in MS Word. Plenty of other graphical objects out of alignment in the document. See pages 11 and 20, for example. Note page 20-21 also show textual defects (the invalid character boxes in the text box). Document at: http://www.lancs.ac.uk/ug/blaney/fyp.doc
Problem regarding graphical objects obscuring text is tracked as issue 32175. As a workaround you could select the object(s) and set the "Anchor" manually to "as character". I will change the summary of the issue according tothe second problem. MRU->MMAHER: take my (to be) attached sample of the mentioned file. There you can see, that when imported into Writer, the row breaks in the tables are displayed as "square" character. The tables are inserted in grouped drawing textboxes, thus they cannot be imported as tables in Writer.
Created attachment 21677 [details] shorter version of mentioned document
I can see the same failure in attachment with the open office 1.1.4 and windows XP. But after I try to create a new file same as the attachment in MS word,I open the file with OOo1.1.4, table is displayed correctly and row break isn't replaced by "square" character. The following is the steps how I create a new file by using MS word: 1.From "Insert – Text box", insert a text box in a new document 2.From "Table – Insert – Table", insert a table into the text box. 3.Insert another text box in the same page, then insert a table to this text box. 4.Save this file as .doc file and then open it in the OpenOffice1.1.4 So, it seems row break of table in the text box that is import from MS word file does't always show as "square" character, it is just sometimes.
