Description helmerj 2002-04-18 16:58:12 UTC
When importing a scalc spreadsheet using OpenOffice 641.d under Mandrake 8.2
as a data source the cell format that was set in the spreadsheet to either
german DM or Euro (german) is reset to $ US. The rese is visible in the data
source panel and is inserted as such into the Documents.

so 1.200,00 DM becomes $1.200,00.

reassigned to nn@openoffice.org, because he is the developer of this
database driver.

As a workaround you have to set the column format in the database view
to your right currency format.

I set this to enhancement.
From the technical point of view, the spreadsheet driver has to
translate into the "database world", and there is no such concept as a
format of a column. In databases, numbers are stored, not money
values. It's always a matter how you interpret these numbers.
Comment 7 Frank Schönheit 2002-10-16 13:46:15 UTC
fs->nn: If we want to have this (I am not sure about it, there is an
easy workaround), then the spreadsheet driver would need to add a
Format property to the columnds. Please ask Ocke for details (I am not
sure how complete the infrastructure for this is implemented in
SDB(C(X)))).

I'm fine if you guys close it, the one thing I'd like to know though is,
how do I get rid of the single quote and where is it actually stored, as
it is not exported when exporting to plain text. The find and replace
function also doesn't find it.

Falko, any opinion on whether we need this? (Ignore the last comment
and the attachment, they belong to a different issue)
Comment 11 falko.tesch 2003-10-01 14:55:39 UTC
I'd say this is a nice to have. I re-target it to Office Later
Comment 12 niklas.nebel 2003-10-02 17:26:24 UTC
accepting for later.

Suggestion in handling spreadsheets as new data sources:
for each column do {
1. check format of the first n cells in column (table head not included)
2. if it is the same in all n cells use it as format for the new field of the
data source
}
Problem is the selection of n. Maybe constant 10. Or the max. row# of filled
cells of the column. Or the min of both.
