Description aparan 2005-02-07 10:39:12 UTC
It seems that OO.o sticks to a restricted set of paper sizes [US/MEtric]. I am
having a MS WOrd document in which I have been doing various work docs with
varying paper sizes [A4, 8.5 X 13, Executive, Custom pages, etc.]

As far as those paper sizes which my default printer knows [A4, 8.5X13 and
Executive] they used to show up as the named sizes in File > Page Setup of MS
Word.

Now when I opened the document in Writer, the page styles were imported as
Convert 1, 2, 3, etc. But when I checked the page size, the width and height
were shown correctly in inches, but the paper name, as known by my printer, was
not shown. I suppose that OO.o should show Named paper sizes for documents if
they are recognised by the specific printer or else 'Custom size' could be shown.

Generaly this works good, so please attach a document, which shows the problem.

I am attaching the sample file. Open it and go to page style Convert 1 > Modify
> Format - is blank [though my printer recognises it as 8.5X13], similarly for
Convert 2 it is Executive.

In MS WOrd it takes the paper sizes according to the printer i.e those available
under the Paper tab of Printer > Properties. If I change the Printer from Print
menu and close, it asks for repagination [sometimes]. Then if the specified
paper is not available for the other printer, the Paper size will be set to
Custom size [In all cases the length and width of page is read exactly as it
is]. The issue is about the name of the paper size which is not shown.

I think OO.o should paginate the document according to the printer, perhaps.

It seems OO.o works as designed. But 'other' softwares have this option already.
Therefore, changing issue to enhancement for further consideration.

MRU->FL: I have talked to PB. It should be possible to enhance the list of paper
formats with a passable effort. Please set up the spec for this (about the
formats which have to be taken in mind).

Set target.
Comment 7 frank.loehmann 2005-11-10 14:43:54 UTC
FL: Changed target to OOo 3.0 because PP2 has other priorities.
Comment 8 frank.loehmann 2006-07-13 16:43:23 UTC
set target to OOo 2.x
Comment 9 frank.loehmann 2007-09-07 10:32:21 UTC
Set target to OOo later.
