Description terber2 2005-02-19 21:36:08 UTC
Already posted as issue 42679 against build 680m77, wrongly set to "fixed"!
PLEASE, would someone at least care to look into it, before setting it to fixed ?!

Document created with MS Word 2000.

MS Word shows two pages.
OO 1.1.4 shows two pages
OO 1.9.79 (as OO 1.9.79) shows three pages. Empty page two inserted (only
footers visible).

Confirmed/duplicated problem on my installation of 680m79. The document looks
fine in Word 2003.

Windows XP Pro SP2, hotfixes to 2/05
Java JRE 1.4.2_06

OK, we have to find out, what's the diffenrence on our systems. I also use WinXP
and 680m77, m79 and (not released) m80 show correctly two pages on my machine.

I played around a little bit with the document and found out, that som
Word6-compatibility flags are set. E.g. "Use printer metrics for layout" is
checked in Word, which means that OO's import will also set "use printer
metrics..." in Tools.Options.Text document.Compatibility.
Question is: on your system, does Word also show two pages when using the same
printer for the docuemt? Or does the document still show three pages when you
disable the mentioned compatibility flag in OO Writer?

OO 1.9.79 with "Use printer metrics for layout" set - 3 pages - WRONG
OO 1.9.79 without "Use printer metrics for layout" set - 2 pages
OO 1.1.4 with "Use printer metrics for layout" set - 2 pages
OO 1.1.4 without "Use printer metrics for layout" set - 2 pages

OO 1.9.79 default after fresh install: "Use printer metrics for layout" set
OO 1.1.4 default after fresh install: "Use printer metrics for layout" NOT set

"Question is: on your system, does Word also show two pages when using the same
printer for the docuemt?"
Sorry, I don't get it - what do you mean with "the same printer"?
All applications (OO 1.9.79, OO 1.1.4 and MS Word 2000) are installed on the
same system with the same user account using the same printer (HP LaserJet 5L).
What do you want me precisely to test?

With this, I meant, does the document still show 3 pages, when you set a
different printer for the document in "File.Printer Settings". But if you only
have one printer installed, my question should be dispensable.

We know found out, where the problem is. On the first page, the last paragraph
(with the underline) gets erroneously imported. In MS Word, it is an empty
paragraph where only a page break resides. Ms Word seems to ignore such
paragraphs while formatting. As long as this paragraph is empty, Word leaves it
on first page. As soon as there will be text entered in this paragraph, Word
moves it onto the next page with displaying paragraph attributes for this.

MRU->FLR: The filter's behaviour in OO1 was a bit better here. The empty
paragraph (only containing a page break) was ignored when importing. Because of
the brehaviour in OO2 the document may look differently on some printers.
