Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4324
Font Kerning & spacing in general / aspect ratio is off with dual head setup
Last modified: 2003-03-13 10:27:10 UTC
I have a linux box at work with a Matrox dual head G450. It seems like that the layout model used is tied somehow to the screen proportions, as whenever I open a document in openoffice the kerning and spacing is expanded. The aspect ratio of the page looks like it's in landscape mode vs. portrait mode. (And the page is setup to be oriented in portrait mode) When I switch it to View->Online Layout, the kerning problem disappears.
Also, I'm using the beta linux drivers from matrox.

Please run the program "xdpyinfo" and have a look at the screen size in pixel and in mm. What's the respective value ?

The bug is in your XServer: it reports the pixel dimensions for both monitors while the millimeter setting is only for the first. dimensions: 3200x1200 pixels (371x272 millimeters) resolution: 219x112 dots per inch Please consider upgrading to XFree86 4.2.0. I think they have fixed the bug in that release.
Yep, I have the same problem. StarOffice betas did not have this problem, and neither did an earlier version of OpenOffice (0.9.9 or whatever was the previous Debianized version before 1.0).
Joost: please update to XFree86 4.2 as Christof suggested
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
