Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44196
Find erases the users data
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
If you type a string in the Find window and you forgot the spelling and want to check it in the spreadsheet you can either click in the spread shee using the mouse and then scroll around to find it - or you can work faster and use the keyboard. However - if you use the keyboard the only way to focus the spreadsheet is to close the Find window tapping either Escape or Ctrl+F again. BUT this erases the find string you just carefully typed - yes Ctrl+F ERASES the find string because you didn't click find yet. You should never erase data the user types unless he asks for it to be deleted (this is a basic interface rule). Escape might be acceptable to erasing data/ work but not Ctrl+F. Please consider making it possible to focus the spreadsheet using the keybaord without closing the Find window. Or make sure the Find string is never erased even when it was not committed. -- David
1) Open Calc. 2) Press CTRL-F to open the Find dialog. 3) Enter a string and then press CTRL-F. The dialog closes. 4) Press CTRL-F again to open the Find dialog. Note that the string was not saved. Pressing Cancel from the dialog has the same result. MS Excel does remember the string even if you cancel from the find dialog. Changing to Enhancement. Mark
