Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44282
Cell notes/comments are misplaced if columns to the left are hidden
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
The location to display a cell's note/comment seems to be calculated based on the widths of _all_ of the columns to the left of the cell rather than just the visible columns. If there are hidden columns to the left of the cell containing the comment then the comment will be displayed too far to the right. If there are several hidden columns then the comment may be placed completely offscreen.
Note objects do not update their position if the width of a column or the height of a row is changed (hiding a column is nothing else than changing its width to zero). Excel shows the same behaviour, if a note is always visible.
as it works like Excel enhancement for requirements
as i came across issue 54751, which is related, just a short note: "as it works like in Excel" is not a good reason to declaring this as an enhancement, not a defect. The current behaviour is not very obvious. Notes object's position should rather be relative to it's anchor's position. As this is not explained in the specs, it is an enhancement.
There are several related issues (listed below), where the inserted Note is not displayed in the expected position after some modification to the spreadsheet. Position of Note is not adjusted when... - Insufficient room on right-hand side of window (Issue 14286); - Columns / rows are hidden (ie. size=0) (Issue 44282); - Split separation inserted for row / column (Issue 56931); - Row (/Column?) size is changed (Issue 61253). Regards, Andrew
Confirmed with OOo-Dev 680m152, WinXP SP2. Problem still exists. Regards, Andrew
Just to add to ace dent's list, note positions are also not adjusted when rows are sorted (Issue 59745).
