Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 45041
Build time for Solaris build instructions
Last modified: 2010-11-10 23:48:09 UTC
For the web page at http://tools.openoffice.org/dev_docs/build_solaris.html, you can use the following build time information, if you wish. System: Sun Ultra 30 workstation, 300MHz UltraSPARC CPU, 512MB RAM, 10K RPM disk Software: Solaris 10 3/05 with JDS3, Sun Studio 10 compiler suite OO.org branch: SRC680_m74 Build time: approximately 39 hours I ran dmake within tcsh's time command to get the above number. It is the sum of the user and kernel space time. The wall-clock time was slightly longer, because the build ran in the background while I used the workstation for other stuff.
Thanks, I'll update that.
One thing I just realized is that the Solaris build instructions are for an earlier version of OO.org, while I built with a more recent pre-2.0 version of the source. Perhaps the build instructions for Linux could also reflect that the Pentium III build time is for a 1.1.x version of OO.org. My experience is that there should be roughly a factor of two difference for compiling betweeen a 300MHz UltraSPARC II and a 600MHz Pentium III, so I'd hate for my time to be a source of confusion for people building either code base.
