Description alexanderhars 2005-03-15 15:01:13 UTC
When I add formulas to table cells, then the values are computed correctly until
I delete a value in one of the input cells.

Example:
1. Create a table with one row, two cells (<A1>, <B1>).
2. Enter a value into <A1>, e.g. 5
3. Enter simple formula into <B1> e.g.: =<A1>
4. <B1> cell now displays 5
5. delete value in <A1>, so that <A1> is empty
==> <B1> is unchanged but should be 0

Problem occurs in 2.0 Beta, version 1.9.79

MRU->OS: calculation in table will only be updated when leaving and re-entering
the table or manually by F9. But not when cell content will be deleted and then
travelling to different cell.

This is terrible! Why do you eliminate functionality that worked perfectly in
OOo 1.1? I can't believe that you are going this far in replicating MS Word that
you even copy their mistakes. Or is it now a 'feature' that table calculations
return inaccurate results?

Please notice that one of the very real advantages of OOo over MS Word was that
users were able to create templates that included calculations (e.g. invoice
templates, travel cost templates), which could be opened by the user, the user
filled in the prompts and the total etc. was automatically filled in. This is
not possible in MS Word because there the user needs to press CTRL-F9 repeatedly
in the cells he is changing.

I have used this as the key argument to convert several MS Office-using small
businesses to OOo.

But now you are eliminating this advantage. Only when the user remembers to hit
F9 is the calculation updated. This is error prone.

Please reconsider deferring this problem to the OOo later milestone and fix the
problem right away.

Thanks
