Description bclintbe 2005-03-27 22:47:36 UTC
I am a science teacher and was working on creating an assignment for students.
Because of a policy within my school board, I must save all such files as "rtf"
so that they can be shared with other teachers across different platforms. I had
to include a graph, so I created it using Calc and pasted it in. I typed in the
multiple choice questions with their answers, created a numbered and bulleted
list, and idented the answers so that the would appear as multiple choice
format. Finished, I saved and closed the file.
A short while later I reopened the file and found that almost everything was
gone. The title and initial instructions that appeared at the top were still
there, but everything from (and including) the graph down were gone. I tried
opening the file in MS Word to see how it would look there, and the graph was
still gone, but the questions had reappeared as a text box below the title.
If you would like to see this file, please give me instructions of how to send
it to you. I will be redoing the assignment and can send you a pdf of how it is
supposed to look if this will help.

I almost forgot to mention that after pasting the graph into the OOo text
document, I then used the Draw toolbar to add text boxes to label the different
lines on the graph; I had been unhappy with how the legend turned out so I had
gotten rid of it in Calc. Each line had a text box of its own as a label
identifying it.

From the attached RTF I can only see, that there obviously is a problem. But we
need the document in native Writer format, so that we can see what's going wrong
when exporting this to RTF. So please attach a sample which is of native Writer
.odt format. Feel free to reopen issue when you have done so.
Thanks for supporting us!

File as an OOo file
Comment 6 bclintbe 2005-04-11 06:41:03 UTC
I have attached an .odt file exactly the same as the one I was originally
working on, so I am re-opening the issue as I was told I could.

Please note, when I originally created this file, I didn't save it first as odt
and then second "save as" an rtf. I was saving it right from the start as an
rtf. That said, I created this file (lesson54assignment.odt), saved it as an OOo
text file. I closed it, reopened it and everything is fine. I then "save as... "
an rtf, close it, reopen it, and everything is screwed up. There is something
about saving as an rtf that is causing a huge loss.

If I can be of any other help please let me know.

MRU->FLR: the text following the Chart is completely lost when the .odt is
converted to RTf and reloaded.
Comment 8 flr 2005-04-13 14:40:59 UTC
flr:
The fly-frame environment was not left correctly, which caused the data-loss.
However OLE's are currently *not* supported by the RTF im- and export.
See #i39541#.
