Description rri0189 2005-03-30 13:45:06 UTC
-nodefault does not start with no default document, as it should
Comment 1 stefan.baltzer 2005-04-22 11:29:29 UTC
SBA->TM: My crystal ball tells me that this brief description is about starting
"WHATEVER" application (Writer/Calc/Draw/Impress) from a command line of an
operating system. -> Component changed to framework.

Hopefully rri0189 is willing to write another line about his/her findings :-)

To assist a little in "what to write about since everything is crystal clear",
here's some questions:

 - What Operating Sytem(s) did this occur on?
 - If this was found in OOo Beta, then it was OOo 1.9.78. Meanwhile, we have OOo
1.1.95 available (see http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html) - Is it the
same behavior in that build?
Reassigned to TM.

Comment 2 stefan.baltzer 2005-04-22 11:30:16 UTC
SBA: Subcomponent changed to "Code".
Comment 3 rri0189 2005-04-22 17:45:43 UTC
Windows XP.

The new beta doesn't seem to work either.

soffice -? says:
-nodefault don't start with an empty document

The only sensible reading I can come up with for this is that it is supposed to
start an empty frame, the same state one would enter by starting with -writer
and then closing the document. But, in fact, soffice -nodefault seems to do
nothing at all. (So does soffice with no argument.)
Comment 4 mci 2005-07-07 09:32:42 UTC
changed OS to WindowsXP
Comment 5 mci 2005-08-04 11:39:13 UTC

hi lo,

may you please have a look at this issue?

What does "-nodefault" do at all?
Comment 8 lo 2005-08-30 10:15:40 UTC
no default starts the the process without displaying a frame at all. Describing
it as "no default document" is a relict from the times when there was no such
thing as an empty frame. Maybe the help text should be changed to reflect that.
Somthing like "start without an initial windows".
Look at your task-manager, you should be able to see the soffice.exe/.bin
process pair.
To start the application with an empty frame, start soffice.exe without any
parameters at all. As soon as anything is on the command-line, you will get at
least an empty text document (unless another default document was specified)

The online help says "Opens the backing window." in the page "Starting the
OpenOffice.org Software With Parameters".

But when you use this parameter, you will see the start-up logo for a short time
and then OOo starts invisible. But only starting soffice.exe/.bin should be done
by the parameter -invisible. So it is surely a defect either in the code or in
the documentation.

I use German 1.9.125 on WinXP.

the same in 2.0.1 on GNU/Linux:

- soffice starts OOo, shows UI, no document opened

- soffice -nodefault shows splash screen, nothing else, OOo is running

soffice -h shows:

-nodefault don't start with an empty document

1. it should be fixed like lo suggested. (lo: can you please fix it?)

2. help contains wrong description. (ufi: can you please fix it?)

Move target to 2.0.3.

changed Help file text\shared\guide\start_parameters.xhp
Comment 12 lo 2006-07-24 09:12:31 UTC
reassigning to CD
Comment 13 carsten.driesner 2006-07-24 09:53:16 UTC
cd: Set correct target. UI freeze for OOo 2.0.4 was 13th of July, so no chance to
get this fixed for OOo 2.0.4!
Comment 14 Mathias_Bauer 2007-12-04 16:18:21 UTC
according to release status meeting -> target 3.x
