Description jevan 2005-05-04 02:47:36 UTC
Right-Click on page number in OO Word 2.0beta.
Doesn't bring up list of bookmarks any more (used to in previous version
1.1.1).

Reassigned to ES.

What do you mean? I've never heard about such a feature and I don't understand
what is the relation between "page number" and "bookmarks" (Insert - Bookmark).
Comment 3 jevan 2005-05-10 12:36:25 UTC
It's in the OO2.0 beta helpfile I can't get a screendump cause I've uninstalled 1.1.1, It works in OO1.1.1 but not in OO2.0beta

EXTRACT FROM HELPFILE OO2.0beta

Index tab, type in (under Search Term): bookmarks; positioning cursor
Then press "Display" button. It says:

Going to Specific Bookmark
To go to a specific bookmark in your document, right-click in the Page field on the Status Bar, and then choose the bookmark.

no problem with m98 on linux.
Comment 6 jevan 2005-05-12 11:59:47 UTC
It's started working.

Because its working now so, I don't know.

Maybe it just magically fixed itself, who knows.

I didn't download a new version - still same version.

Comment 7 jevan 2005-05-12 15:26:36 UTC
Actually the problem happens still but its only with one document. I think maybe it only happens if you load a version 1.1.1 OpenOffice document (SXW) in version 2.0beta and then save-as ODT. Then fully close openoffice and open it again and bookmarks aren't working.

I find if I open a new OO2.0beta document, create a bookmark, then I can see it by right clicking on the page number. If I then open my resume document (ODT), the page numbers work!

But if I completely close OO2.0beta and open my resume document (ODT) then the bookmarks don't work.

I'll attach the ODT resume document since, you might not be able to reproduce it with your own document.

ODT OO2.0beta file that bookmarks not showing in page bar
Comment 9 eric.savary 2005-05-12 16:33:34 UTC
I still cannot reproduce it
Saving as odt or sxw, reloading opening in OOo 1.1.4, saving, reopening in OOo
m103 -> Bookmarks are still there.
Please try to reproduce it in a newerversion and reopen when you have more
information.

1. I've attached an AVI movie showing the issue.

Please watch this first since it shows me trying to bring up the bookmarks.

You can see in the AVI that, if I close and open the document, bookmarks work again. It's only the first time I start OpenOffice, where bookmarks fail. If I close (exit) the entire application and reload the document then bookmarks fail. If I close just the document (but not the whole application) and then open the document again, bookmarks work.

2. Please ensure you are loading my attachment

All you need to do is open the file in OO2.0beta then right click on the page number and the bookmarks don't appear.

It looks like you missed this part of my comment (the fact that I made an attachment), when you did the testing.

I still cannot reproduce it (tested on WinXP)
It looks like starting OOo by double clicking produces this problem.
Please confirm that you run Win NT.
Try to install again.
Comment 14 lohmaier 2005-05-13 21:39:10 UTC
still not reproducible on linux with m98 even when starting OOo with the document.
Please try again with a more recent milestone. There have been a couple of fixes
(affecting the statusbar as well)

See attachment:

more testing of odt bookmark issue - 16 may 2005.zip
(Requires latest winzip 9.0SR1 to uncompress)

I've compressed using the superior algorithm since it gets the fize down under 1mb but, you'll probably need the latest winzip (zip for microsoft windows) to unzip it.

This shows that the issue doesn't just happen when starting from the command line. It shows a reproducible and consistent scenario about when it does & doesn't happen (watch the video & see).

Yes, it is windows NT4.

I'm not planning on installing OO again just because of this - reinstall is a lot of hassle. If issue isn't able to be resolved from this analysis then, I'll just close/open the document (without closing OO) when I need to use bookmarks so that it starts working again. Users will still have learnt the method to solve the problem if it does happen.

The new thing I noticed is that you also have to close the "Untitled" document, for bookmarks in the other document to start working when you open it.

Comment 17 eric.savary 2005-06-14 16:21:11 UTC
Well, you may try to reinstall (maybe in another path) a new version. As you
flagged for OOo 2.0 Beta I assume you *DON'T* work with it but just test the
product. So you may try it with another version.

But as we can't reproduce this at all. I'll close the issue.

May you experiment the same problem with a newer version, please reopen.
