Description wgillmor 2002-05-16 23:50:30 UTC
I added a note in Word 2000. Sent the document to another user. When he
opened in OpenOffice.org he was shown as the author. When he saved the
document and I reopened it in Word,, Word showed me as the author of the note.

Thanks for posting Wiley.

Could you please post the file that you used to create this problem?
Comment 2 prgmgr 2002-07-10 23:19:15 UTC
Unable to duplicate issue on Solaris 8, OO 1.0, CDE, latest Solaris and J2SE patches.

I created a document in Word 2000. Inside the document properties, I set the author to a test string. Then I saved the document.

I then opened the document on a Solaris box running OO 1.0. I viewed the document properties and the author listed in the created and modified field was the test string.
Comment 3 caolanm 2002-07-11 09:55:19 UTC
cmc->P.M: This is probably about the authorship of "insert->note" in
writer and "insert->comment" in word, not the actual document properties.
Comment 4 prgmgr 2002-07-11 18:30:41 UTC
Thanks for the heads up Caolan.

Issue duplicated on Solaris 8, CDE, OO 1.0, latest Solaris and J2SE patches.

1. On Win2K using Word 2000, created document with a comment.
	Insert | Comment.
Note, inside Word 2000, it seems to keep a list of all
the people who have entries in the comment.
Word 2000 uses 2 pieces of information to build the comment
information, the name and initials set inside
Tools | Options | User Information

	See before16.bmp, authorlistbefore16.bmp, userinfo16.bmp

2. Saved the file.

3. Opened up the file in OO 1.0
OO 1.0 uses the initial field as the name of the author.
Inside Word 2000, the name of the author is listed.

4. Edited the comment.
OO 1.0 overwrites the initial and name content of the
    comment.

5. Opened up the file in Word 2000.
The comment only lists marshall in the "Comments From"
    field.
There are extra characters in the comment.

    See after16.bmp, authorlistafter16.bmp

Reassigned to Michael.
Comment 11 michael.ruess 2002-12-18 17:13:38 UTC
That's a difference between MS Word and OO Writer.
In Word the author of a comment is not changed, when it's content is
changed. In Writer, the note's author is changed. Now one can discuss,
which behaviour is better...
mru->bh: Is it necessary to change the behaviour of our notes?
Writer's behaviour isn't really better or worse, it is just different.

Target changed.
Comment 14 bettina.haberer 2003-03-25 13:45:33 UTC
Changed issue type to enhancement.
Comment 15 bettina.haberer 2004-04-08 21:24:03 UTC
It has no high priority but should get reworked for later, as it is a bit annoying.
Comment 16 walrus 2004-04-27 03:10:09 UTC
This really seems to be a bug. I'm using OOo 1.1.1 , if I read notes from a .doc
(or from a .sxw), if I read them individually, authorship is conserved.
Otherwise, if I use the arrows to go to the next note, it changes the ownership
of the note I leave even if I didn't change a thing.

Ooo changing the author if I change something in a note, it works differently
than in Word, I accept it. But if it changes the author even if I didn't change
a thing, that's more a bug than an enhancement.

Thanks for all, keep up the good work !
Comment 17 walrus 2004-08-16 18:29:29 UTC
Is this issue considered in any way for OOo 2.0 ?

Notes are not being used by the majority of users, but those who use it consider
it an essential feature of MS Word, it would be nice if it could be corrected
for the next 2.0.
Comment 18 walrus 2005-08-30 19:43:29 UTC
Any chance that we may update this bug ?

-First of all, it affects all os-es, not only Solaris
-More important: this is a REAL bug, it should be placed as DEFECT not as
enhancement.

Definitions as written in "issue type":
Defect is a problem with an existing feature that is either not developed to
spec or does not work as designed. These are often referred to as "bugs."

Enhancement is an improvement to an existing feature.

Cleary, this feature (notes) doesn't work as designed in that case, meaning it
is a defect, not an improvement to an existing feature.
Comment 19 eric.savary 2007-07-26 16:35:40 UTC
ES->MOD: I think it's a bug too. Word interoperability.
Please give a comment and and forward to Christoph to add the issue ID @:

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Notes2#

Else keep it as enhancement in your intray.

Thanx!
