Description jevan 2005-06-20 04:18:32 UTC
Improvement suggestion:

File/Export as PDF -- General/ ("Tagged PDF" and "Export notes")

These two buttons I usually have both ticked or both unticked. Some documents don't need tagged PDF (if no hyperlinks in them) so I don't want them exported as tagged PDF, in order to have a smaller PDF. Some documents though, do have hyperlinks so I tick the "tagged pdf" and "export notes" buttons when exporting.

However every time I load openoffice it uses the file/export settings from last time, not from that particular document. An improvement suggestion would be that the file/export settings are stored on a 'per document' basis, with global default settings used for new documents.

So that, when you load the document with hyperlinks in it, you can click on "file/export" and know it will automatically have 'tagged pdf' already ticked (since you ticked it last time you exported that document as a PDF). Then when you load the document without hyperlinks, it will (similarly) remember your 'tagged pdf' setting was unticked for that particular document.

There is an Ubuntu bug open about this overall issue as well. Here is the
contents of the bug report:

OpenOffice.org remembers settings made to the 'Export as PDF' dialog, for
options such as:

General
- Image Quality (Lossless PNG or Lossy JPG)
- DPI Reduction

Initial View
- Panes
- Magnification
- Page Layout

User Interface
- Windows Options
- User Interface Options

But these options are remember without differentiating between Writer and
Impress (and the other apps). This is significant because it's very likely that
those settings would be different, for example:

Writer:
- Bookmarks and Page
- Fit width
- Continuous Facing

Impress:
- Page only
- Fit in Windows
- Single page
- Open in Fullscreen mode

As you can see, these settings are very different, and opening a Writer document
in fullscreen mode is silly. So the settings should be remember on a per
application basis (so a seperate memory for writer, impress, calc, etc).

May I add a related matter:
The Password (for permission and open) for the PDF document should also be stored
in the same way.
At the moment I have to retype the pass word EVERY TIME to export a PDF with
password protection.
This even applies when not closing the document! Highly annoying especially when
importing single pages as PDF or (in Draw) exporting different layers.
The pass word should at least be stored for as long I have the document open!
