Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 53416
en/em dash autocorrect fails when preceeded by a field (i.e.footnote)
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
When typing: "The European Court decision in the Microsoft case(112)--where the court ruled bla bla bla--caught the attention of IP lawyers everywhere." [The (112) refers to a footnote anchor in the text] I would expect autocorrect to convert -- into a dash. For once, don't tell me that this is a special use and that OOO is not for me. Reassigned to SBA.
ES->OS: following cases don't work: 1) <field><space>--<text><space> -> '--' should turn into eN-dash but doesn't 2) <field>--<text><space> '--' should turn into eM-dash but doesn't furthermore (maybe a duplicate of the issues mentioned above): 3) <text>--<space><text><space> -> will not autocorrect the '--' at all.
Can this be merged with 5018?
Yes! Merging with an issue opened in 2002 is gonna help! Seriously, your best bet is to map your keyboard to get alt-0150/1 when you need it.
SBA: Duplicate of enhancement issue 5018. Never mind its age, obviously, it is still valid. I ran into another duplicate and try to consolidate the related issues to ease an overview. The rules are: Basically, the older issue "wins". Only if a newer one is "better described" (i.e. without a few meter of useless discussion or misleading comments), we tend to use "the one that is more efficient while reading". ...and sometimes "the one without insults and bashing of people who make the product that comes to you for FREE" are the ones we prefer to deal with :-) *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 5018 ***
