Description hcstudt 2002-05-30 13:09:03 UTC
I would like to propose to add a bookmark feature much like the one used by the
Nescape/Mozilla browser.
This would be a great way for users to save the location of often used files
everywhere in OpenOffice where files are opened.
The bookmarks should be stored in a XML format just like Mozilla does.
It is in my opinion a much better solution compared that where just a list of
the 10 last accessed files are used, such as the one found i MS word (another plus).

We`ve had such a feature in 5.2 ! Please have a look, thanks !

I am not sure we are discussing the same thing.
I just tried to look for how to store file names as a bookmark in
swriter, but I could not find out how.
According to the OOo help some thing called "bookmark" is used to
point INSIDE documents :

"Use this command to insert a bookmark at the cursor position.
Bookmarks are listed in the Navigator and can be accessed directly
from there with a single mouse click. In HTML documents, bookmarks are
converted to anchors which you can jump to via hyperlink."

What I am looking for is to be able to store and maintain a personal
list of full file names, so after starting any OOo application I can
open a exsisting file by selecting it from that list.

If I am wrong could you please be a bit more specific in telling me
how I can create such a "shortcut" to open a file - thanks.

I also want to add that it would be very helpful to enhance the
proprietary open / save dialog of OOo with a feature to jump to
certain defined directories/folders. I often have the case that I have
to use different file locations and it is always a little cumbersome
to navigate between the different directories/folders. In Windows you
can use the 'Favorites' in the open / save dialogs of MS-Office. A
similar feature for OOo would be great!

I would like to add my vocal support to this last comment. On Unix
boxes, you can always work around that using symbolic links but I find
it's messy.

The Workspace button is just not enough.

A set goal for 2.0 is to enhance our system integration so your
desires will be obsolete with 2.0 where we will replace our File
operation dialogues by the system ones.
Though I cannot guarantee that those dialogues will satsify your needs
it is the road we are walking on.
