Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 54655
error loading BASIC of document file:/
Last modified: 2008-11-05 20:38:22 UTC
Two i/o error dialogs occur everytime I save a document. The document saves just fine, but it complains that it can't load the BASIC of two documents, giving me a general input/output error. The document saves fine. Two screens of the errors will follow.

I upgraded from ver. 1.1.5 to 2.0. Now I have this issue as well. The difference is the actual error reads: Error loading BASIC of document file:///usr/lib/OpenOffice.org1.1.5/share/basic/WebWizard/script.xlb/: General Error General input/output error Platform: i686 OS: PCLOS

Error still occurs with OO 2.0.1
Forgot to add that installation procedure (or initial activation perhaps) creates directory "C:/Program%20Files/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/share/basic/webwizard/" where OpenOffice.org1.1.0 was the previous version installed on this computer. The directory is empty and there is not the equivalent directory in the OpenOffice.org2.0 directory tree.
ab->cyberwuffy: The problem with all these "error loading Basic..." task - there is a couple of them - is: The error messages are correct. The script/dialog.xlb files are really missing or corrupt. But what confuses me in this case: Did you install OOo 2.0 into the same folder (/usr/lib/OpenOffice.org1.1.5/...) as OOo 1.1.5?! Or does only the buggy Webwizard is located there? In the first case you don't have to be surprised. OOo 2.0 has to be installed into a own folder. But if you did this I assume that you migrated the old user data and so imported the corrupt link. Unfortunately your attachments are nearly useless, because they only show the symtoms. As I said, the error message is correct. The question is _why_ the link has been corrupted and when. There are many ways to corrupt an installation... But if you like you could attach the UserInstallation/user/basic/script.xlc file, both from OOo 1.1.5 and OOo 2.0. Then I could at least see if you just mi- grated an old problem from OOo 1.1.5 to OOo 2.0.
Through my history with linux and OO, I've accumulated quite an amount of user folders in my home dir. Versions of 1.1.2, 1.1.3, 1.9.79, 680, and 2.0. It was awhile ago, so any user dir files I copied were from either the 680 or 1.9.79 versions as I was helping out with beta testing. I've included the requested xlc files from all of the versions in a following tar.gz file. I'm still learning linux, and throughout openoffice's history, it's quite confusing, yet logical, there are /user dirs for each release. at the 2 beta, it stopped depositing these dirs in versioned subdirs of $HOME/.openoffice. like 1.1.2 and 1.1.3, but that's beside the point. Standby for attachment.

The problem with all "Error loading Basic of document" tasks is,that always only the broken result is available and the way to this result cannot be reproduced. Currently no idea what to do. -> OOo later (WONTFIX or INVALID candidate)
This is fairly well understood. It is probably an installation issue. See my note at http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=59890
ab->stevanwhite: No, this isn't understood at all. Your comment in i59890 only describes the workaround that I've already mentioned there one year ago. Setting this one as a duplicate to i59890 as it makes no sense to keep multiple issues for the same problem. See my comment in i59890. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 59890 ***
Same issue on OO 2.4. The error shows up while launching Oo
