Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 55036
In-document version comparison requires version to be open
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:54 UTC
The OOWriter help file does not state that an in-doc version** must be first opened in its own window in order to perform the COMPARE function. Perhaps either a) add that into the Help, or b) automate the opening of the version in a new window to permit comparing, to eliminate the manual steps demonstrated below. ** by 'in-doc' I am referring to the FILE > VERSIONS feature, not the EDIT > COMPARE DOCUMENTS feature 1. Create a new Writer document 2. Save the empty doc (any filename) 3. Activate FILE > VERSIONS > 'always save a version on close' 4. In the document, type in the word 'one' 5. Close and save the doc 6. Reopen it; examine versions: 1 version now available 7. Add the word 'two' after the word 'one' 8. Close and save the doc 9. Re-open it; examine versions: 2 versions now available 10. Select the oldest version (top of list); click on 'compare' button 11. Focus returns to page -- NO TEXT CHANGES MARKED (should be showing 'two' as new text Here is how we force it to work: 12. In version list, select the oldest version (top of list) and click OPEN; the earlier version is opened as READ ONLY in a new window (contents: 'one') 13. Switch back to the other window (contents: 'one two') 14. Go to Versions list; select the oldest version (top of list) and click COMPARE; now that version is correctly compared to the latest version, popping up the ACCEPT/REJECT dialog Thanks, Andrew Ferguson
