Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 55377
Writer does not saves files with large tables
Last modified: 2019-12-06 14:36:03 UTC
How it is noticed: i opened a large MS doc file, containing table 24x3000 cells containing one word per cell and tried to save it as odt - i got about 1/10 of the text. Then i tried to copy paste the same - everything was ok until i tried to save it - the same "success" - i can provide the original file - compressed it is about 200k (~18M uncompressed). With the smaler files everything was ok (for example - table 24x2000 went through - size of MS doc - ~12 M)
jancs, thanks for reporting this! please attach a sample file for reproducing
Created attachment 30078 [details] file contains MS Word document for testing
Reassigned to ES.
confirming for WinXP, OOo 2.0RC2: When saving the file as .odt or .sxw, most of the content will be lost. When saving as .doc, the file will be broken (Word03 crashes on first attempt to open but can repair the file in a second run. COntent seems to be ok after the repair.) Leaving P", as we have a data loss here
just a notice: same happens with OOo 1.1.5, when saving to .sxw
ES->FLR: please have a look.
Confirmed (probably) for Linux/OOo 2.0.0 also. I tried creating a large table (>7000 rows by 10 columns) from a text file. Writer successfully read the text and converted it to a table (although that conversion took >15'), but I could not select/modify the whole table at once, and on saving & re-opening, most of the data was lost. Based on the reports here, I assume this is all the same bug. Limit of 65535 cells in some internal ops? Just a guess.
today (29.11.2006) i found that some part of the problem remains - i opened the file (MSword doc) containing large table (~72000 cells), made some editions and saved the file. After this operation, when tried to open the file in Word, it crashed without any messages. As the seccond - i can not split the table in this file using "Split table" - Writer thinks for a while and nothing happens. Currently i am working with OO 2.04 on WinXP
Forgot to mention: problematic file has a table with 3122 rows, but when looking under file/properties, after the update it shows number of lines 9743.
under issue http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72194 the test file is available.
@ FLR, IMHO Data Lost need to be considered for better target. how about OOo 2.x ? better if OOo 2.3 Thanks
The problem is still there - when trying to save large table as odt, everything is lost(table 14949 rows to 21 col). The same remains with saving the table as MS Word doc - it saves it and the doc can be opened without problems in OO, but when trying to open it in MS Word, the result ir broken table and the only possibility offered by MSWord is to convert table to text (did not tried this).
Issue : Truncating content of large MS doc file containing large table while opening through OpenOffice. Reproduced: yes Configuration Used : OS -> Windows Vista RAM Used -> 4 GB Build Used: OpenOffice Version 3.3.1 Steps to Reproduce: 1> Open OpenOffice 2> Click File->New->Text Document 3> Add a large table like 30X30000 4> Save file with extension *.odt 5> Open Office hangs for several minutes for saving. 6> Try to open the saved file. 7> Note that it takes several minutes to open the file. 8> The file opened truncates the content of data. Comments: While saving and opening the file it gives the message in the status bar as not-responding but if the user let it alone for sometime it will save the file with the data truncated.
