Description modis 2005-10-23 21:46:36 UTC
There are two entries for Lithuanian language in language selection list in Font
dialogs: "Lithuanian" and "Lithuanian (classical)". "Lithuanian (classical)"
should be removed from the list, as there is only one Lithuanian language, there
are no different variants of it. Now both entries are translated the same
(Lietuvių) and this is confusing.

Eike: can you help with this please?

This is because Microsoft defined two different LCID values for Lithuanian:

Lithuanian: 0x0427
Lithuanian Classic: 0x0827

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/passport25/NET_Passport_VBScript_Documentation/Single_Sign_In/Advanced_Single_Sign_In/Localization_and_LCIDs.asp

Don't ask me what the difference is, I don't know. Currently we map both values
to ISO codes lt_LT, and when mapping the ISO codes to LCID, Lithuanian 0x0427 is
used. However, in case MS documents were imported that use 0x0827 as language
attribute we need to be able to display the corresponding language in the
listbox, hence the differentiation.

Maybe someone from Lithuania can shed some light on this? Setting PleaseHelp
target and changing from defect to task.

I've talked to people who worked on Lithuanian locale and who are really
qualified in this area. Unfortunately, no one could come up with a good
explanation why and how it happened that there are now two Lithuanian languages
in the list.
It's possible that some not-so-competent individuals or institutions submitted
this incorrect information to Microsoft some time ago.

It's really doubtful that Lithuanian Classic: 0x0827 is used in MS documents
actually.
We have only one Lithuanian language and other variants (Lithuanian Classic in
this case) should be removed. If it causes incompatibility with MS or any other
documents, it's their problem to fix this.

Ok, I'll remove the language listbox entry and keep the mapping to the
lt_LT ISO code for the LCID value, just in case someone tries to import
a document that uses it.

Btw, this

fix would not be likely to ever happen..
