Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 56868
RTF: exported UNC Links (links like \\server\name), gives "Error! Hyperlink reference not valid." in WordViewer
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:22:32 UTC
I created a new Rich Text Format (RTF) document in Writer. My text included Universal Naming Convention (UNC) links (like \\server\share\) and web links (like HTTP://). Writer auto-formats both types of links to make them "clickable". When saving the document I was notified that some information may be lost in the .rtf format. I closed the document & re-opened it, and found that where the UNC links were (eg. \\server\share) there was now only a blank space! The HTTP:// links were still there. I added the UNC links back in, saved the document again to .rtf, closed it and opened it again in Writer but again the UNC links were gone. I added the UNC links in again, saved the document again to .rtf & closed it and this time I opened the document in Wordpad instead and the UNC links were still there. This makes no sense to me - it seems like Writer is removing and auto-formatted UNC links it sees only in .rtf formatted documents. I have tested doing this with a document I created in Writer and saved to Microsoft Word format and the problem didn't occur. It only happens with .rtf documents (which open fine in Wordpad).
confirming on linux. On reload of the RTF the link is gone. When opening the RTF in WordViewer97 it shows "Error! Hyperlink reference not valid." So the link is stored, but these links apparently are not valid in RTF OOo stores it like this: {\field{\*\fldinst HYPERLINK "" }{\fldrslt \*\cs8\cf2\ul\ulc0\rtlch\ltrch\dbch\hich\f0\fs24\lang1031\loch\f0\fs24\lang1031 \\\\server\\share}
MRU->FLR: if you export an UNC path hyperlink to RTF, it will be completely lost when reopening the file.
