Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5711
openoffice crashes with dde-linked documents
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
1. create a writer doc with some text 2. create a new writer doc window 3. copy the text from the first doc 4. paste special in the 2nd doc the text selected with opten dde link 5. save both files 6. try to open the first one: you will get the following messages: a/ update all links? yes then: b/ un unrecoverable error has occurred. all modified files have been saved and can probably recovered at program startup. then: c/ windows95 message: soffice made an illegal instruction in svx641mi.dll then: oo crashes it would be nice if dde links works fine in openoffice.
Reassigned to Michael.
I cannot double the problem with OpenOffice 1.0.1 or 643. Reuss, could please check on your system?
Temporalrily set to "WORKSFORME".
Ok, neither did I if "insert as copy" was selected. If I set "insert as link", the unrecoverable error is reproductible. If not, try to change the text of the document you copied the selected text from.
I tried it on Win98 and WinXP; OpenOffice 1.0 did not crash at all. Yes, I selected DDE-Link from the list... Mybe, the crash only occurs on Win95. I'll have a further look on it when I found a Win95 machine in our house.
a remark: I think that document link should be live in OOo. That means that if I create a document, I could link in an other and I can view it contents in the second doc. If i made changes on the first doc, the linked part in the second doc follows the changes or, if I change the link contents in the second doc, the changes are applied in the first one. In that way, the contents are always identic in the link and the linked document. I found this facility in applixword, but not in OOo, unfortunatelly. If you dont understand my bad english, please ask for precisions.
Could you please provide your two file which cause the crash? You might attach them to this issue if you want. But you can also send them directly (mru@openoffice.org) for the case they contain confidential data you are not willing to spread these here.
Lowered priority and target, as long as this issue is only reproducable on one machine (wich also runs on a platform becoming extinct).
Reuss, do you have the possobility to test your issue on a different (newer) Operating System? As long as Windows 95 is not officaly supported by [Star|Open]Office, it would be great to know, if this is dependent from the Operating System or something else. Thank you very much! As long as this issue cannot be reproduced on any other System, this will be set to "invalid".
Closed. No response...
