The doc file impossible for OO 2 Writer to import
Comment 2 michael.ruess 2005-11-10 11:30:17 UTC
I am not able to open this with OO 1.1x or OO 2.0. Even MS word is not able to
open this. This is no valid MS .doc format. It is anything else, but no OO or MS
compliant file format.

Closed.
Comment 4 lhome 2005-11-10 15:20:31 UTC
I think there is no reason to be sure that it is a bad doc file.

OO Writer 1.1.2 opens this.

I'll ask the author of the file about the version of MS Word used to create
it.

OK, the attached file works while I couldn't get a correct file from the
download location (which I tried first).
However, on WinXP I can open the document without problem on OO 2.0 and on an
internal OO 2.0.1 milestone. I will try with an OO on Linux tomorrow.
Comment 7 lohmaier 2005-11-10 23:49:35 UTC
FYI: no problem opening hat file on linux in OOo 2.0 (german)
Comment 8 aziem 2005-11-11 02:31:18 UTC
No crash, hang, or slowness opening attachment #31323 [details] on Fedora Core 4 (Linux
2.6) with OOo 2.0.0 (official OOo build).
Comment 9 michael.ruess 2005-11-11 07:22:01 UTC
I also tried to open with OO 2.0 on SUSE 9.2 -> no problem.
Comment 10 michael.ruess 2005-11-11 07:23:07 UTC

Would you all be patient to set your options as shown in the attached snapshot
and try to open lab2.doc again?

I confirm: OOo 2.0 official hangs with CPU 100% on WinXP Pro SP2, BUT only if
OOo is set to load MS Office objects (I have no MS Office installed). If you
switch off the [L]oad in Tools|Options|Load/Save|Microsoft Office the document
opens without problems.
Attempting to open the first Chart (of Excel? titled "Results obtained" in
Russian) by double-clicking it start Calc that hangs, though.
Tested with attachment (id=31323).
Comment 14 michael.ruess 2005-11-15 14:30:23 UTC
This is of course a quite essential information! The object conversion option
must be enabled for this.

MRU->OC: please have a look, the Conversion of the Excel objects lead to a loop
here.
Comment 15 oc 2005-11-15 16:18:07 UTC
There is no loop, but charts with many data which leads to a performanceproblem
(which should be solved by the planned chart2 implementation). But the Excel-OLE
shows another problem: in OOo the Excelsource is right-to-left but in Word it is
shown as left-to-right. Therfor the view is not on the right place and the OLE
looks like it is empty => daniel please have a look
