Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5812
Mozilla Addressbook does not update if you're using them together with ooo-quickstarter?!
Last modified: 2006-05-31 14:29:06 UTC
I'm using Mozilla 1.0 (final build) and set-up a database connection between ooo and the mozilla addressbook in my german ooo-version 1.0: How I did set-up the "Mozilla Addressbook": 1. Using OOOWriter 1.0 (final build) 1a. Over the menu File > Document template > Addressbook source 1c. Click 'Administration' 1d. Click 'new Datasource' 1e. Change database type to 'Adressbook' 1f. Change database URL to 'Mozilla Addressbook' 1g. Click 'Okay', finish! How I realized that, the "Mozilla Addressbook" wouldn't update if the ooo-Quicklounder is active: 1. Using OOOWriter 1.0 (final build) 1a. Pressing "F4" 1b. Selecting the current "Mozilla Addressbook" database 1c. All entries are there. 2. Using Mozilla 1.0 (final build) 2a. Using 'Addressbok' 2b. Adding a new entry 2c. Closing 'Mozilla' 3. Using OOOWriter 1.0 (final build), already opened (see 1.) 3a. Pressing "F4" 3b. Selecting the current "Mozilla Addressbook" database 3c. All entries are there, except the new one. What I did try to update the "Mozilla Addressbock" without changing any settings 4a. Pressing the "Update"-icon does not change the situation 4b. Using the menu Extras > Update > Update all does not change the situation 4c. Disconnecting and Re-Connecting the database won't change the situation 4d. Escaping OOOWriter and opening it again wont change the situation. What solve the problem 5a. Closing "quickstarter" 5b. Closing OOoWriter 5c. Opening "quickstarter" and OOOWriter again, all entries (including the new one are showed together). So for me the "Mozilla Addressbook" is used like a static file, only updated when you restart OpenOffice.org (including "quickstarter"). For my understanding, this should be a "live" connection and should be updated if you press "update" ;-) Good look!
this is definately a database access issue
There is a fix for this which is available currently in the latest developer build. This fix will b ein the next release of OOo. The fix means that if the Data Administration window is closed, then all updates since the previous connection will be available. Note that if the "Enable Pooling" is enabled for the Mozab SDBC connection in the Options->Data Sources-> Connections, then this update will not appear until the Timeout period (default 60 seconds) has elapsed. I appreciate that this is not a total fix i.e. the refresh update is not available until you exit the Data Administration, but this is a huge improvement particulary in the situation where the QuickStart feature means that OOo is permanetly loaded. Also, the same behaviour would be visible if you were able to run two simultaineous version of Mozilla's Address Books. I would vote to mark this as fixed
John, I second your vote :). Thanks for caring for this.
I had hoped to hear from the reporter. marking this bug as fixed.
