Description gostner 2006-01-08 14:44:09 UTC
The wizard to convert MS-Office or older Staroffice/OpenOffice documents to
OpenDocumentFormat does not work for non-privileged users

Tested on Windows 2000/XP and SuSE 10.0:
The wizard terminates with an error message: "Resource file missing (com680*.res)"

It works if you run it as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators
group on Windows 2000 and XP, I haven't tried this as root on Linux

Could not confirm. I tried it on both WinXP Home Edition and Linux FC4:

(1) On WinXp Home Ed., I created a new user with Limited priviledge and
successfully converted Excel docs using the conversion wizard.

(2) Same conversions were successful using Fedora Core. I did not need root
priviledges.

Perhaps attaching some sample files which couldn't get converted will help
confirm this issue.

I have tested this on different machines on Win2000, WinXP, SuSE 10.0 - as a
restricted user you don't even get to selecting any files, the first thing you
see after selecting "File - Wizard - Document conversion" is the errormessage I
mentioned in the issue description.

I'm not sure if there are any real restricted users in XP Home, though - I think
all users have at least some administrative rights in XP Home.

I'm attaching a screenshot of the errormessage.

I agree it's not really an important issue - home users have root rights on
their machine, and at work document conversion may often be done by the IT
dept., who will know what to do. It's probably mostly a problem for SMEs.

Can't reproduce with OOo2.0.2rc4 WinXP SP2 and non-privileged user.

But I found a duplicated.

Closing.
