Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 61079
Highlight page number in Navigator, to allow new entry
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:00:25 UTC
The navigator contains a input box where the user can enter a page number to jump there. To use this box, the user has to click here, and then drag to highlight the existing page number. (If he starts entering the new page number, it will get inserted inside the existing digits; creating a nonsensical number.) Instead, when user clicks in the page field in the Navigator, the entire entry should be highlighted, so that he can start typing the new page number directly.
Yes, good idea. I a used the requested behaviour from several applications, for example from the URL-pane of the Web-Browser. A mouseclick into that pane will highlight the complete contents, so that it will be overwritten completely with the next key press. A second mouseclick before the first keypress will place the caret into the pane contents. I was able to find the requested behaviour, but it seems to be OOo philosophy that normally first mouseclick will place caret in the pane contents. Example for requested behaviour /INDOWS): 1. select OOo dialogues in Menu "Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - general" 2. open nes empty WRITER document 3. Menu "Insert - Image" 4. Check checkboxes "Preview" and "Link" 5. Click on a filname (like "apples.gif" in the gallery) result: complete filename in the "filename-pane" will be highlighted by first mouseclick, so that it will be overwritten starting with with next keypress, second mouseclick would locate the caret in the filename.
Yeah, this could be a small but good ease of use. Currently you need to drag or double xlick directly into the digits. Selecting the number when just clicking would be much better.
So should we change the summary to make this issue applicable to all input fields (not just in Navigator?)
I am no longer officially active on OOo. Please take over.
