Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6308
Allow one-click single cell selection
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
Selecting multiple cells starting from one single cell needs too much "keyboard work"; why not treat one cell with a cursor around it like several highlighted cells, when using CTRL+click. I believe most people need to get used to that if they don't use it frequently - and then they might welcome the not-to-have-to-press-SHIFT.
Hi Falko, 1 4 u Frank
What do you mean?
selecting multiple cells starting from a single selected* cell via CTRL+click doesn't work. *this means simply has the cell focus One needs to SHIFT click the single cell first. Can one not simply treat a single cell with the focus around it like a SHIFT selected cell IF the next click on a different cell is a CTRL- click?

Allow one-click single cell selection to be done by single mouse clicke (behaviour similar to Excel). Note: This is part of a greater scope in selection, dragging and moving cells in Calc. This needs more in-depth and holistic evaluation.
.
Also: Right clicking above a cell that is not selected should move the focus to the right clicked cell and bring up the context menu for the newly selected cell. This would make the ui feel more responsive allowing an action to be applied from the context menu with one click instead of two. If I right click over a cell with no focus the context menu appears but focus does not change. If I then left click over a different cell focus should move immediately to the selected cell. Instead the first left click merely makes the context menu disappear. Left clicking again will (usually) move the focus when one click, again, should be enough. I say usually because there seems to a defect - it can take more than one further click to move the focus. If you click once to remove the menu then click too quickly a second time it ignores the second and subsequent clicks, until you pause then try again. By this time you feel not only that the ui is awkward but you're actually having to fight it to do what you want.
Both of these issues are fixed in OOo 1.9.74. Marking as Resolved:Fixed.
