Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 63278
Actual favicon showing OOo1.x colors should be replaced
Last modified: 2012-01-29 22:14:25 UTC
The actual favicon shows the colors used for the splashscreen of OpenOffice.org 1.x. For OOo 2.0 we got another splashscreen with different colors and a different gradient. I suggest to change the favicon to fit the new colors. As proposal I designed a new icon I attached to this issue. Perhaps you may want to use it (licensed under LGPL, JCA signed). Best Bernhard
Created attachment 34940 [details] proposal for a new favicon
I find the black hard gull hard to see... Perhaps we should consider having white gulls, see my attachment.
Created attachment 34979 [details] The icon with white gulls
Created attachment 34980 [details] This fixes some problems with the previous upload
The last icon does not have the black border of the first one... This can be added if requested. I think it looks better with the black border personally.
I think in the appropriate size (16 x 16 pixel) thel white gulls are even worse to recognize. But that's just my personal opinion.
The gulls in my icon are a little smaller than yours, but these can be made larger, and hence be more visible. Again, of course, it is only my opinion which rates the white gulls higher. Kind Regards, Matthew
recommendation, as made on list, small favicon facing right (left to right) with high-contrast birds, either white or black. My own pref. given the size is for black birds: white might bleed into the space of the address bar on most browsers. if no interest...I'll probably choose Volker's as it is of the right size and has adequate contrast. thanks louis
I would like to declare that the idea and the first proposal came from Bernhard (BeDipp)
Ok... One more suggestion before we all start voting on the cards - this time contrast is not an issue, and OOo 2.0 colours are still used. See openofficelogo3.ico. Kind Regards, Matthew
Created attachment 34998 [details] New logo - simple two color dichotomy - perhaps this fits in with the new theme.
Created attachment 35000 [details] modified the gradient starting with a lighter blue
I modified the gradient to make the upper gull better to be distinguished from the background (on TFT it's been ok, but on a conventional color monitor the blue is much darker). Having a look at the present icon I created this one in 48 x 48 pixel, but please be aware to decide about it in 16 x 16 pixel size. @louis: I would not change the relative position of the gulls - it would become too different from the OpenOffice.org logo: The right one should be the upper one. Cheers Bernhard
Hi I think that bedipp's does what we want and maintains continuity. I vote we use it. Thanks! Louis
+1 : Bedips icon fits the criteria much better than mine. Kind Regards, Matthew
bedipp: can you create favicon_new_lighter_gradient in 16x16 and attach it to this issue? thanks louis
Created attachment 35076 [details] Favicon with lighter gradient in 16x16 pixel size
I uploaded the 16x16 pixel icon - even if the previous one had 48x48 pixel (just copy it to the desktop using a larger symbol size) probably reduced to 16x16 because it opens in irfanview as 16x16. Just use the one you want to :-) It's great, wen ideas become realized in such a sort time. Thanks!
reassigning didn't work in combination with change of status
I added it to www/www/, as that was the only place I could find; it is possible we'll have to add it to all projectname/www/ directories. meanwhile, the old one was staticized. So, it will take a little time to publish this one. best louis
Support, where should I put the favicon so that it presents on all pages? thanks louis
Louis, the place you found is perfect for all pages. Each pages references the location at www.openoffice.org/... and it's not one for each project.
then why is the new favicon not showing?
Would you have an example of page and browser? I see it every day in every bookmark in IE6 and Moz1.7.
Ah. I had not checked in Firefox. Safari still has the old and so am clearing my cache. It works fine in firefox :-) so, am closing.
