Description Unknown 2002-07-09 04:09:22 UTC
Hi Louis/Martijn,

Just went through the OOo News section again and noticed the following problems:

 - Two instances of the 'Enza says "no" to Microsoft' article. Looks like it was cut and pasted twice accidentally
 - Broken URL for 'All eyes on Linux: Microsoft absent as free OS dominates show' (the target page isn't there - for Mozilla 1.0 Win)
 - Broken URL for 'If I were Scott McNealy' (the target page isn't there - for Mozilla 1.0 Win)
 - Broken URL for 'Free Office Suite Now Shipping'. The target page is there, but the URL in the href tag on the OOo News page has been
corrupted and needs to be fixed.

All the rest in the English section work fine at present. Didn't check the non-English news articles however.

Hope this helps.

:)

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

This is fantastic!
seriously.
Do you want to help me more?
:)
I very much need someone to check my work, as I have to do lots, in addition to this.
You do not need any real html skill: just checking urls, stuff like that, and then filing an issue like this when there are problems.
let me know
Louis
meanwhile, I'll fix the problems.
:)

Hi Louis,

Just checked to see if these had been updated (probably yes, but not visible on the web yet) and found
out that the first broken URL 'All eyes on Linux' isn't as broken as I thought.

After looking a lot closer at the href for it, there's an extra carriage return on the end, which the
browser is turning into %0D and sending along with the URL string. And that's corrupting the URL enough
for the IDG webserver to not find the right page.

If you update that link to be just
"http://www.idg.net.nz/webhome.nsf/NL/79D606D158B83740CC256BB5000AF992" then it'll work.

The link 'If I were Scott McNealy' has a similar problem. It's href is't quite right (cut and paste
errors, probably when tired):

Real, working URL:
http://radio.weblogs.com/0103807/stories/2002/05/09/ifIWasScottMcnealyAndHadResponsibilityForOpenOffice.h
tml

Present, not working URL:
http://radio.weblogs.com/0103807/stories/2002/05/09/ifIWasScottMcnealyAndHadResponsibilityForOpenOffice.h
tmltml

Um... I can't commit to helping you check links and stuff, as I'm already doing about 12-18 hours of work
a day on OpenSource stuff full-time as it is, and that's *still* not giving me enough time to update the
PostgreSQL sites nor SF.net database foundry.

The reason I got this done was that I needed to go through all of the known Reviews for the update to the
Flash intro, to find better quotes, and on the way through noticed the errors.

So, I'll definitely point out things as I come across them, but there's no way I can physically get the
time to check heaps of the OOo site.

Like, I wish I could, but I can't.

:(

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

justin,
thanks--don't worry about making this a fulltime helljob. Incidental
checking is more than adequate.
thanks
Louis
Ps I haven't gotten around to updating the files b/c I had to deal
with lots of webmaster stuff. Will do this soonest.

Here is another incorrect URL on the news page :

The article "Sun Makes Licensing Peace Offering to
OpenOffice.org - 2002-08-14" is attributed to The Register, but
the link actually goes to the NYTimes (requires registration).

Here is the URL to The Register :

As agreed with Louis, we can close all the resolved fixed issues he owns.
