Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 63886
openoffice.org SMTP not reachable from outside
Last modified: 2006-04-01 17:11:06 UTC
The openoffice.org SMTP server is down. $ telnet openoffice.org 25 Trying 64.125.133.202... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host
Internal delivery seems to work (IssueTracker mails to florian@effenberger.org arrive). DNS records for openoffice.org show no MX records, don't know if this is correct.
assigning to support I confirmed that telnet openoffice.org didn't work. However the site is otherwise quite functional and I am receiving IZ mail. Lowering prio to p2 Louis
changing summary
I don't have sufficient rights to change the summary, but "openoffice.org SMTP not reachable from outside" would fit it better.
I just checked with CollabNet ops: this is normal behavious. SSh (port 22) does work but port 25 is of course always closed. closing issue as invalid....
Seems you got me wrong. :-) I do not try to telnet to openoffice.org, I try to reach the SMTP server responsible for the domain openoffice.org. I.e. the server managing the mail delivery for someone@openoffice.org As openoffice.org does not contain any MX record in ns1.collab.net, the domain openoffice.org is responsible for SMTP services, so port 25 has to be open from the outside. Otherwise no one from the outside can send e-mail to someone@openoffice.org
Some stuff of technical interest: # dig openoffice.org @ns1.collab.net -t MX ; <<>> DiG 9.3.2 <<>> openoffice.org @ns1.collab.net -t MX ; (1 server found) ;; global options: printcmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 4753 ;; flags: qr aa rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;openoffice.org. problem fixed by CollabNet. Evidently, a DNS issue. closing.
closing; reopen as needed.
