Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 63996
Restore option "Colored tab controls"
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:35:54 UTC
_Type_ is *re-ehancement*, actually! I come here instead of StarOffice Site - apparently useless. I am very dismayed to see the vanishing of the long-standing OPTION for _coloured tabs_ of panels (Dialogues) - one thing lost that we had come to rely on! PLEASE PUT THESE BACK, URGENTLY. Reason. This guided the eye so well, and I want my background colours, mimicking these, in my Book to still be valid, too -- in potentially advising others with it and prmoting S.O./OOo!.
TM-requirements: please have a look, thanks
More meaningful summary @uk_sharpless Please stop all your "special formatting", what makes your reports completely unreadable!

IIRC the coloured tabs vanished when we added the native look and feel support. I don't know enough about that to judge whether these are contradicting features. Anyway, if coloured tabs would take considerable effort to implemenet them I doubt that we will work on it. I notify a developer from the gsl team for a comment about this.
Thanks, mba. I hope that native look and feel concept doesn't contradict with coloured tabs.
The code has vanished long since but colored tabs would not be hard to implement again IMHO. However they would have to take precedence over native widgets if enabled and would look ugly when combined with native look widgets around them. Perhaps one would need to switch off NWF as a whole in that case.
I would press you to restore the colours -- at any 'cost'! The reason for their vanishing is, surely and as you might know: that S.O. is in its origin an OS/2 programme, and that these colours are and were native to OS/2 ! Somebody must be clever enough to add the code producing that effect, mimicking IBM's code -- that aspect of the Presentation Manager... !
