Description Unknown 2002-07-12 19:40:11 UTC
Hi guys,

Just read a review of the Japanese version of OOo at :

http://www.forest.impress.co.jp/article/2002/06/17/openoffice.html

and it says that the Help system is still in English for them.

Sounds like we need our translation teams to work on the Help system too.

:-/

Regards and best wishes,

Justin Clift

This is dependant on the XML Version of the help system. Currently,
we can't touch the online help content.
Comment 2 bluedwarf 2003-01-17 17:51:13 UTC
The help system is already localized in Japanese on
OpenOffice.org1.0.1 for Windows.

But, on the same version for Linux, strangely enough, the help system
is still in English.
For Japaenese help system build, follow steps below,

-----
cd ${SRC_ROOT}/helpcontent/unx
wget
http://sf1.mirror.openoffice.org/miscellaneous/helpcontent/helpcontent_81_wnt.zip

unzip helpcontent_81_wnt.zip

mkdir common/japanese
unzip -d common/japanese shared81.zip

mkdir swriter/japanese
unzip -d swriter/japanese swriter81.zip

mkdir scalc/japanese
unzip -d scalc/japanese scalc81.zip

mkdir schart/japanese
unzip -d schart/japanese schart81.zip

mkdir sbasic/japanese
unzip -d sbasic/japanese sbasic81.zip

mkdir smath/japanese
unzip -d smath/japanese smath81.zip

mkdir simpress/japanese
unzip -d simpress/japanese simpress81.zip

mkdir sdraw/japanese
unzip -d sdraw/japanese sdraw81.zip
-----

Although the Japanese helpcontent file is named
helpcontent_81_wnt.zip, it is not problem to use for Linux build.
So you must extract it, re-archive the extracted files as
helpcontent_81_unx.tgz and upload to
http://sf1.mirror.openoffice.org/miscellaneous/helpcontent/.

Furthermore, these issues result from troublesome manual works for
build. So, localized helpcontents must be containted in any source.
Now, you should add them to CVS repository.

Hi, Clift

This is Maho(ja native lang project owner)
Thank you very much for reading japanese page.
I'm very appriciated that you are interested in Japanese.
Howerver, infomation on Madono-mori is often false(!)
so I do not trust what they say :-)
http://www.forest.impress.co.jp/article/2002/06/17/openoffice.html

Howerver, it is true for UNIX version. In my work for
FreeBSD's port, extract helpcontent before building
for every native language port.
See: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=41688

Well, helpcontent is already l10n'ed for some OOos,
howerver we have to employ `trick'
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/build_linux.html#BuildingLocalised

Is it possible for you to fix this?
1. prepare helpcontent_81_unx.tgz(it is easy to
estabilished just extract win version and re-do
targz', it is ok, and I do not see any reason why
there's no helpcontent_81_unx.tgz but others exist)

2. Requires such file when someone build OOo,
for each native version supporting l10n'ed help.

Thanks.

OpenOffice.org 1.0.2 is alredy uploaded in
http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/stable/1.0.2/.
And I confirmed OpenOffice.org_1_0_2 tag in CVS repositry.

Remember to put Japanese helpcontent in helpcotent/unx/ for Japanese
Linux build at the moment.

Anyway, it is the best to add localized helpcontent in CVS repositry.
This problem must be resolved as soon as possible. It's not difficult
to do that.

Best Regards,

Hi,ALL

I am Linux user in Japan.

OpenOffice.org is wonderful software.

However, there is a partly regrettable thing.

It is also one of the big reasons that a help is not Japanese.

when I heard "windows version help was Japanese ", I thought They
want to not use by Japanese linux users.

I hope a help to become Japanese immediately.

reassigning to owner of installation
Comment 10 stx123 2003-01-22 09:24:27 UTC
Frank, AFAIK there are differences between the Windows and the UNix
version. If we have no Unix specific Version, can we use the Windows
file and convert as described above?
Comment 11 frank.thomas.peters 2003-01-22 10:03:30 UTC
That should work, but you will miss some Unix specific parts,
like spadmin. Why is the Unix help missing? I never heard of that
problem before.
Comment 12 stx123 2003-01-22 11:34:14 UTC
Frank will provide the help files to Martin.
You will find them soon at
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/helpcontent/
as described in
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/build_linux.html
