Description mustang64 2006-05-19 04:48:23 UTC
I am using version 2.0 (openoffice.org-cor 2.0.1-1, Fr 23 Dez 23:39:52 CET 2005)
of OpenOffice.org. My problem is:

I am trying to use Calc to build a flowchart. The reason I chose Calc was to be
able to easily insert rows and columns where additional flowchart entries can be
placed. Problem is, when I try to insert a row, or column, or even just a single
cell, all the flowchart entries stack themselves up in cell A1. Not a happy
thing to see when you have several hundred entries already entered.

Entries have got to be moved around because I have to add more entries between
entries already in the flowchart.

BTW, this flowchart is for a computer program I am trying to document and develop.

I have tried to anchor the entries to the page, but that will not allow me to
insert space (rows or columns) between the flowchart entries (within the document).

I have tried to anchor the entries to cells, each to their own cell, but this
does not seem to work, and everything gets stacked up at cell A1 again.

I'm not using any cells in Calc except to align the flowchart graphics.

What am I doing wrong? Do I have to anchor to an "active" cell, and how do I do
that? At this time, it looks like the Calc layout will cover about 50 "pages"
and several hundred to a thousand "entries" in each page (a fair sized
document)...

Any help you can give me will be deeply appreciated...

Thank You

Gary DeHaven

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and was not
able to reproduce that problem, but I am pretty sure that I do not understand
that problem completely.

@mustang64:
Pls. read http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/basic_rules.html and
contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and every mouse
click how to reproduce the problem using your 'Jinni Program Flowchart.xls'

OS = Mepis 3.4-3
OOo version 2.0 (openoffice.org-cor 2.0.1-1, Fr 23 Dez 23:39:52 CET 2005)

I initially built the Flowchart in this manner, using native Linux .sxc format.

Open a new spreadsheet
Left click on Flowchart symbols at the bottom of the screen.
Left click to select the symbol you require.
Left click and drag to make the symbol in an open area of the spreadsheet.
Left click on the object and drag-n-drop it into location.
Proceed with additional symbols until you have your flowchart filled, or it's
time for bed...
Left click File->Save and save the spreadsheet in native Linux .sxc format.
Because you have to share this document with a Windows user, also save in the
Windows .xls format by left click File->Save As and select File Type "Microsoft
Excel 97/2000/XP (.xls)".
Save and close the program.

The next day, open OOo Calc and use File->Open-> and left click on the .xls
document. Left click "Open".

At this point, any attempt to enter data in a spreadsheet field, insert a field,
insert a column, or insert a row will cause all your flowchart entries to
collect in the top left corner of the spreadsheet.

Try to left click on any row, right click to open the drop down screen, left
click on the "Insert Row" tab, and everything will gather in the top left corner
of the spreadsheet.

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and was not
able to reproduce that problem. If I understand you correctly, in the reopened
.xls all images will be "to huddled together" after you insert a column or row.

@mustang64, if I understood you correctly:
- You only see that in the reopened .xls
  - Works fine in in .xls before you closed and reopened it
  - works always fine in .sxc
  - works always fine in .ods

Correct?

Pls. also see issue 65651! Because of my results in that issue, I preliminary
see this as a "save export" problem (Anchoring)

You are correct. When building the original flowchart, inserting colums, rows
and cells works fine. It is when you reopen the .xls file to do additional
editing that the flowchart symbols jump to the top left corner.

Reading over the case in 65651 looks very simular and could be related.

I just looked at the "anchor" symbols in my spreadsheet and they all look OK,
but I was not paying attention to them when I built the flowchart in the first
place.

I can edit and save my .sxc files without problem. It is only my .xls files
that are having this problem.

Thank You for your help.

Hi,

tried to reproduce this behaviour with OOo2.0.3 and could not reproduce. Neither
on Linux nor on Solaris or windows.

Please use the latest stable build OOo2.0.3 from the openoffice.org website.

For now I've to close this Issue as worksforme.
