Description pjohnson 2002-07-25 22:41:09 UTC
I typed in a fairly lengthy description of a bug, then clicked the Commit
button. I got an error message that said I needed to enter a subcomponent
(which I had failed to do). The error message said to click the Back Button and
enter the subcomponent.

When I clicked the back button, I was returned to the page where issues are
entered, but all of the fields (including the description I had entered) were
reset! It would be nice to not have to re-enter everything.

I tested this on linux using mozilla and netscape and galeon as well
as windows 2000 using netscape and iexplore and every time I used the
back button my comments and the rest of the detail I entered was still
in the form. I used a bogus username in the "assigned to" field which
guaranteed the issue would not be filed and I would have to go back to it.

Could you provide the platform and browser as well as the version
levels of both that you are experiencing this problem with?

I'm using Win 98 and IE 6.

Did you try omitting a subcomponent from the test issue you
submitted. That was what gave me the error message requiring that I
use the Back Button to fill in the subcomponent. Maybe it is broken
for that error but not for others.

Paul - I tried it on a win98 machine with ie6 and omitted selecting a
subcomponent and when I went back, all the data I had input and
selected was there including priority, issue type, summary and comments.

Maybe there's something about your browser's settings, although I
cannot think of much other than maybe the "temporary internet files"
settings.

Hi Brian,

Well what can I say? I just tried recreating the bug myself and it's
gone! At the time that I submitted it, it had occurred several times
(reproducable), but it seems to be fixed now.

Thanks for checking into it. I'm marking the issue as Resolved: Works
for me.

As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved
<wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for
details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
