Description hardyn 2006-06-14 06:54:29 UTC
Add Grip style cropping tool, exacly like image resize.
Resize works very well, add a tool bar switch or keyboard switch to convert
resize interface to a crop interface, and eliminate crop tab from picture editor
dialog.

Reassigned to requirements.
Comment 2 mgillett 2006-06-19 09:24:27 UTC
+1 for this, it is an areas where MSOffice is leaps and bounds ahead - accurate
cropping is virtually impossible with the current crop tool.

Comment 4 mangar 2006-09-27 13:15:29 UTC
+1, the current crop dialog is hardly usable (at least by myself)
writing the crop size (in inches) and previewing by a tiny little box with
almost not visible content is not very comfortable.

thanks in advance!

I've hit this too - it hurts specially for screenshots, but also for
non-pre-cropped scans... From where I come from, I used to use this quite
frequently.
Comment 6 mattm591 2007-03-24 17:03:20 UTC
This is especially annoying when you have dual screens and both are included in
the original image.

When it comes to cropping you see a tiny overview of the entire image and it is
virtually impossible to see an exact area.

This is the one and ONLY feature that requires me to go back to MS Office from
time to time.

PLEASE! sort it!
Comment 7 hardyn 2007-06-13 21:12:57 UTC
Initially submitted 1 year ago... is this something that might get into a build
in the near future?
Comment 8 amosharper 2007-10-06 10:28:31 UTC
This is definitely an important issue in my opinion. Even to be able to expand
the current dialogue and drag the borders rather than entering values would be
an improvement, but ideally handles should be implemented.
Comment 9 emmanuelg 2007-11-08 04:52:08 UTC
It's very important for me
Comment 10 rboulle 2007-11-08 20:14:48 UTC
+1
It would be very useful for MSOffice users on the way to migrate to OOo. Most of
them used to this crop tool find this as a lack in OOo. A lack that could be
enough to prevent them from migrating.
Please, sort this out ! :-) Thanks in advance.

please make sure that you vote on the change, i'm not sure that comments alone
count toward the urgency of the feature update.

Maybe this extension : http://www.alicvb.com/Programmes/cropooo/index.php can be
consider as a workaround for this issue...
Comment 13 andreasplesch 2007-12-03 16:56:05 UTC
I have voted for this a long time ago. I installed the cropooo extension via the
extension manager and it works very well in Presenter, thank you so much. It is
great, and does all I need. I will keep it around. In Writer I could not find a
menu entry or icon in my OOwriter 2.3.0. I added manually the
cropOoo.Module1.main macro to the Picture toolbar. But after clicking the new
icon, defining the crop rectangle and hitting enter, the result is not
calculated correctly. The image jumps, and the cropping borders seem inverted in
some cases. Thanks again !

I voted for this. The lack of this tool is more or less a show stopper. Even
though it works, the dialog is a poor replacement. I understand that this may
not be trivial coding, but for me, this is an important tool, and I miss it a
lot (from msoffice).

AlicVB's cropooo extension (http://www.alicvb.com/Programmes/cropooo/) seems
unstable in my environment.

I'm the developper of the extension 'CropOOo'.
Please feel free to post messages on the forum http://forum.alicvb.com if you
experience some problems... (This is a French Forum, but you can post in English...)

to crop a image and saves the user time
This is one thing that keap Ms office that one step up

Hope one day we can do this in open office as it is a much better office program
but it just need a quick and fast way to crop images

Comment 18 johnpaulm 2008-03-13 01:52:38 UTC
I couldn't believe it when I couldn't crop in the same way as MS Office. I had
a look online to see if I'd missed something, and came up with this forum.

As a teacher, Print Screen ind inserted images for teaching aids is much much
quicker when the crop tool is user-friendly. I could do it in another program,
but there are plenty of people who wouldn't feel like learning to use a drawing
program, no matter how simple. There have got to be a lot of people out there
who would not be happy to lose this function in their word processor...

JohnPaulm, please see above blog post - "This feature is planned to make its
way into StarOffice 9 / OpenOffice.org 3.0".
Comment 20 clippka 2008-04-28 16:35:35 UTC
this feature is already part of OOo 3.0. See mentioned blog post above.
Therefore I close this issue
