Description gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 04:42:18 UTC
Please add the Calc to Writer Copy, Link or Paste Improvement for future
enhancements. The sooner would be very helpful.
Comment 1 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 04:45:37 UTC
The problems encountered were reported in issue 63175 and 63215.
Comment 2 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 04:57:56 UTC
The challenges and problems encountered were mentioned in the following Open
Office Forum discussions.

Comment 3 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 05:02:44 UTC
Similar problems encountered were reported in issue 63175 and issue 63215.

I indicated that already, in the previous 2 comments. However, I did not put
work issue in front of issue 63215. Therefore, issue 63215 did not have the
link. Now issue 63215 has 4 links.

I am taking an Entrepreneur Development & Training (ET&D) class that is being
taught at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (http://NewBirth.org) by Jerome &
Elena Edmondson who run the Christian Business Network
(http://CBNInternational.com). This is a great class, and I paid good money for
it. Thus, please do not under estimate the seriousness because it is taught at
my church.

I completed the various questionnaire, worksheet and Business Plan (BP) writing
assignments with Writer. I wanted to learn and use OpenOffice.org for several
years. Completing the Business Plan and other writing assignments forced me to
learn and use Writer and Calc. The OO Help was very informative. I learned
about links (OLE, DDL, HTML, etc), formulas, functions (especially accounting)
and a whole lot more. I am really impressed with what can be done with OO.

I was able to manage with the Writer Tables for many of the assignments.
However, I quickly learned how much using the Writer Tables was more restrictive
than Calc.

For the BP Financial Plan Section, I used Calc to generate or edit the following
spreadsheets.
- Sales Forecast
- Cash Flow Projection: http://sba.gov/library/cfbudget.xls
- Income Statement: http://sba.gov/library/incstmt.xls
- Balance Sheet: http://sba.gov/library/balsheet.xls

I created the Sales Forecast and Cash Flow Projection with Calc from scratch.
However, I used the Income Statement and Balance Sheet Templates that were
posted on the United States Small Business Administration (http://sba.gov) Forms
(sba.gov/library/forms.html) web page. I was extremely impressed how well Calc
supports posted Financial Excel spreadsheet templates.

I am especially happy with how well the links work. I have links laced
throughout the spreadsheets.

Great job for the OO Developers & Contributors. I look forward to supporting OO
a lot more via Source Code Development, Monetary Donations, Support, Advice and
whatever other I can contribute my talent.

Reassigned to ES.
Comment 6 eric.savary 2006-06-15 14:13:21 UTC
1) issue 63175 had been closed because it addressed many different problems in
one issue and became unreadable after a while. Expected was a clear step by step
description of each problem with 1 issue per problem. This didn't happen yet.

2) you cannot refere to a problem dissused in an external discussion group and
call it a qualified and precize description.

3) Please avoid background information (your last comments) which have nothing
to do with a precize problem description.

I am extremely upset with the response to my issue, and the other issues I
referenced. No type of inquire was made, or questions were asked.

The background information I provided was to lead to the importance and
significance of my request for the Calc to Writer Copy, Link or Paste
Improvement. However, I was paged by my job, and had to address a problem.

I wanted to start by complementing the OpenOffice.org Contributors for all their
good and hard work. I have been IT Professional for 16 years, and worked in
several capacities of IT Support. Hence, I know how hard it is to receive
complaints with no complements or understanding.

Then I was going to lead into the justification for my request. However, I was
completely shunted by the response from ES.
Comment 9 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 17:40:40 UTC
Please let me know where are the guidelines for submitting OpenOffice.org
Issues. I may have missed this. If I did, then please excuse.
Comment 10 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 17:43:19 UTC
I am a hard core Linux Professional, Enthusiasts, Proponent, Activate and much
more. I started with Unix in the middle to late eighties when I was working on
my Electrical & Computer Engineering Bachelor of Science degree in college.
Therefore, Unix is deeply rooted in my Blood & Heart. I refuse to settle to for
Macro$hit (M$) Lose (Windows) OS & Applications. Especially, when I know there
are Linux & Open Source Software (OSS) alternatives that available and better.
If not, then it can be made available and better. That was one of the intents
of my Calc to Writer Copy, Link or Paste Improvement request.
Comment 11 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 19:24:50 UTC
I have been very disappointed with how slow the industry and my various jobs
embraced Linux & OSS. I feel that Linux & OSS get the short end of the stick
because the M$ Proponents do not even consider it. Most companies are dominated
by M$ People.

My job considered using OpenOffice.org in place of M$ Office. However, they
abandon the idea because OOo:
- Had problems running on Citrix
- Does not support one user running OOo in multiple X Sessions on the same
Linux machine. New OOo Windows will only display in the first X Session
  that started OOo.
- The Calc to Writer Copy, Link or Paste that I and several others reported.
- Many other issues.

I recommended that my job should invest monetary donations to OOo or fund the
development and improvement of OOo to meet the requirements. However, the M$
Folks shoot it down, and my job refused. They resorted to continue paying
millions of dollars on M$ Office Licenses. That is capital that could have
taken OOo a long way, and accomplished more than what my job required. Plus,
this would have been a big contribution to the Linux, OSS & OOo Communities.
Comment 12 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 19:25:31 UTC
Rather than continuously getting up set with jobs that do not embrace Linux and
OSS like I know they can, I am starting my own business. The basis of me taking
an Entrepreneur Development & Training class and writing my Business Plan was to
start my own IT Business that provides 100% (or close to it) Linux & Open Source
Software Enterprise Products, Solutions, Services, Training & much more. I will
start in Atlanta, Georgia because that is where I live. However, I will branch
out soon.

I believe in putting my money, efforts and resources where my mouth is. Hence,
I am using OpenOffice.org 2.0 on Red Hat Fedora Linux Core 4 for the ED&T
worksheets and BP writing assignments. I will upgrade both after I am done with
the ED&T & BP when I will have more time. After I am done with the ED&T Class
and my BP, I WILL position and promote OOo for the future CBN ED&T Students.

This Saturday, I meet with one of the CBN ED&T Students who is taking the class
with me. I am going to help him write the Sales Forecast, Cash Flow
Projections, Income Statements and Balance Sheets. Of course, I am going to
turn him on to OOo by using Calc for the spreadsheets.

In 3 weeks, I go back to my hometown, San Diego, California for a week. I will
be setting Linux & OSS Systems for one of my sisters' home & business. I will
be converting her from using M$ Works with Word to OOo. I kept her from
purchasing M$ Office. Plus, I will be marketing & promoting my Linux & OSS
Business.

I WILL provide OpenOffice.org for the Desktop Office Productivity Solution. OOo
provides a good bridge for people to migrate from M$ to Linus & OSS. My plan is
to generate revenue to contribute back to OOo. The same is true for other Linux
& OSS Applications that I will provide. I am sure this is not new, and there
may are several people and businesses doing this already. That point is that I
am another person who WILL contribute at that caliber.
Comment 13 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 19:26:27 UTC
Fortunately, I am not a new M$ Convert or a Fair Weather Linux & OSS User.
Otherwise, I may have been driven away by how ES handled this ticket, and the
way discussions and issues below were handled.
- Open Office Forum discussions.
  http://OOoForum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=31674
  http://OOoForum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=33320

  http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=63215

Considering the complications of the Linux & OSS Alternatives. I can understand
why many M$ Users do not like Linux & OSS. However, for someone like me, I
think converting from Linux & OSS to M$ is the easy way out. People like me
have to stand firm and use their capital, collateral, connections, experience,
influence, position, leverage, resources, talent and much more to improve and
promote Linux & OSS Alternatives.

My advice to ES and other OpenOffice.org Support Volunteers, Staff, and
Professionals is to be more considerate how the issues are handled. That type
of approach can drive off many people. Unless that is the OOo intent, then it a
better method should be used.
Comment 14 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 19:26:46 UTC
I understand that you are busy, and have a lot on your plate. However, I am
someone who wants to help and can help. I stated that in the background
information which ES indicated has "nothing to do with a precize problem
description". Please, Please, Please do not under estimate my abilities to
assist OOo.

I realize this is not the proper place to express my concerns. However, this is
where it started. I will post my concerns on the OpenOffice.org Forum so I can
receive the feedback from the OOo Community.
Comment 15 gabriel_donnell 2006-06-15 19:55:14 UTC
I submitted issue 66490 which provides the problem description. Plus, I spared
providing background information "which have nothing to do with a precize
problem description."
