Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 67524
cells representing hours not incremented minute by minute
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:12:27 UTC
in Calc, when you have a date, you can increment that date by using the small square on the right corner of the cell. This is called filling series. This works for dates, numbers... but does not work for hours. If you type : 8:00:00 and start filling the series, it should increment it minute by minute ! This would improve a bit the ui.
And why not by seconds or hours? The increment is always one day or 24 hours, independent of the cell format. You can see it in the calculate bar (German: Rechenleiste), and/or when you change the format of the cells to [HH]:MM:SS or [MM]:SS.
> And why not by seconds or hours? And why not by months or years when you have a date ? I think that incrementing minute by minute is an arbitrary choice but that would make sense (at least to me ;-) when you have hours. > The increment is always one day or 24 hours, independent of the cell format. Thanks I had never noticed that. Does this makes sense when an hour is typed in a cell ? I suppose incrementing minute by minute or hour by hour would be more "natural".
In cells: A B 1 08:01:00 08:00:00 2 08:02:00 09:00:00 Now, select cells A1:A2 end pull the black square (the filling grip) downwards next select cells B1:B2 end pull the black square (the filling grip) downwards notice the increments in the different collumns... Closed wfm
I already knew that way of incrementing hours. This issue was indeed posted in order to make OOo more coherent regarding the incrementation of values. Look what happens when you drag and drop only a cell: numbers : increment +1 dates : increment +1 day money : increment +1 euros/dollars... hours : do nothing This doesn't look coherent to me. It should be incremented minute by minute or hour by hour. That's why I re-open the issue.
The dialogue under menu 'Edit-Fill-Series' (in German 'Editieren-Ausfüllen-Reihe...') can be enhanced with the time format analog to the date format.
jolatt -> Yes, I agree
Ah, now i see, thanks To reproduce: A B C 1 1 01-01-07 08:01:00 Now, select cells A1:C1 end pull the black square (the filling grip) downwards notice only collumns A and B will increase. The time column (column C) will not increase. The expected behaviour is that column C also increases. The Edit > Fill > Series dialogue should be enhanched to, but this looks like a seperate issue to me. Please enter a new issue for that one. Now confirming this issue. Greetz, Gerco-Kees
as an enhancement re-assigned to requirements for decission finding
