Save pdf documents from publication
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:40:48 UTC
Let's say you provide regular confidential pdf document's to a group by mail. Suddenly you will be informed, that the confidential pdf document is public in any forum. What the recipient-group doesn't know, the pdf document is hidden coded. You download the public pdf document from forum und look to the code to catch the sender. This kind of protection may also interesting for other file formats.
I heard a similar variation to this once. Same scenario, except that a _printed_ copy of the document appears in public. A hidden code in the ODA file doesn't help here ... So what this idea was is that the user ID varied the kerning very slightly. Not enough for the human eye to see, but enough for a copier to promulgate and enough for a scanner to detect. You scan the released copy, compare it against an untainted version ... note the difference in kerning and extract the original ID of the person who leaked it into public domain. You can then ask him awkward questions. Jonathan
