sorry set wrong keyword - corrected to new_implementation
This depends on the data. What data do you have? For an xy-Chart you need at least two columns of numbers. Currently, you need three columns, because the first one is always treated as categories (see Issue 66867 for detecting good defaults for the checkboxes in the dialog). If you only have two columns, unchecking the "first column as labels" box should of course work, too. If you have two columns, get an empty XY-chart, and change to Column, you should at least get one series. Have to check, if this is the case. (Was handled formerly with unused data, maybe this no longer works)
The problem appears only with 2 columns

Fixed in CWS chart2mst3. You now can create an xy chart from one data sequence. This sequence than is taken as y-values and the empty x-values are automatically replaced by indices.
@Thomas: Fixed in CWS chart2mst3 milestone10, please verify. Copying those charts and pasting them to Presentation does destroy it as the missing x-values are replaced by zeros -> separat issue 72540. The fix for this problem has resulted in an enhancement as now xy charts with only one sequence are handled as in excel.
changed target to 2.3
changed summary to better reflect the resulted enhancement
