Description fbax 2006-08-28 21:38:10 UTC
After openning a Word Perfect document, the "Save As" dialog does not honour the
"default file format" settings. I changed default file format of text documents
to "OpenOffice.org 1.0 Text Document", then openned a Word Perfect document; but
the "Save As" disalog still defaults to "odt" format.
Comment 1 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-08-29 05:32:21 UTC
@fbax:
Please attach a sample Word Perfect document.
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-08-29 05:45:49 UTC
@fbax:
I believe we only have an IMPORT filter, so please explain what exactly your
problem is.

Reassigned to SBA.

I'd upload a sample document (any WPD document will do), except I cannot find an
appropriate mime-type for WordPerfect document.

Here's the problem again, written a different way. We are in a shop with a lot
of machines still running 115; and only a few running 2.x, so on the 2.0.3
systems, under "Tools", "Otions", "Load/Save", "General", I changed the default
document type for text documents from "Open Document" to "OpenOffice 1.0". With
this setting; we can create a new document and the "Save As" dialog will default
to "OpenOffice 1.0 (sxw)". When I open any WordPerfect document, make no
changes, and try to save it, the "Save As" dialog defaults to "ODT". I think
that it should default to sxw the same way a new document does.
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-08-29 15:55:50 UTC
My experience is that this standard only is in effect for NEW documents. The
help text for Menu "Options - Load/Save - General - ALWAYS save as" is
"You can choose which file format will be applied as the default when saving
documents of various document types"
what seems to say that always the file type from the standard selection should
be proposed. But actual only for new documents the standard file type will be
proposed in the "save as" dialogue, for all documents which have already been
saved, the current file type will be suggested.

I didn't find any statement in the specs, no Idea whether HELP or the behaviour
is wrong. I believe that this should be an Enhancement issue:
'"Always Save As" default should also be applied for existing files'

I agree with the reporter that it's a defect, and I would definitely expect the
same as the issue reporter. That is, when importing a file type that can't be
exported, the default file format is the same as is specified under "Default
file format" in the Options.

In case it's useful, here are many WP documents:

SBA: Confirming this issue. I agree with Rainer.
If it is not obvious to everybody what exactly should happen in such cases, then
this is not a clear defect, thus an enhancement. Either of the behavior or the
online help.
Reassigned to requirements. Put UFI on c/c
Comment 8 Uwe Fischer 2006-09-04 08:48:44 UTC
Will add a note to the online help later.
But still it is an enhancement request:
"Save as" must offer the same default file type for new documents as for open
documents that don't have an export filter. To offer a factory default file
format instead of the file format chosen by the user is a bug, IMHO.
