Description Unknown 2002-08-13 08:24:10 UTC
Hello:

I was unable to install Open Office 1.0.

I received the following ERROR windows when I attempted to install Open Office
1.0 on a PC using Windows 2000 (downloaded from the site and then installed).

In the end I was not able to use Windows ADD/REMOVE in order to delete the
files for this application, so I tried to delete them all manually and use
Config Safe to restore the system settings.

1.) “The installation program cannot find the script file in which a....

The file was looked for in the following directory
C:\setup.inf

The installation program cannot be executed without this file, it will no....”

2.) At installation, could not find java.

3.) Then after clock disappeared in the Apps Installation window:

"setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to
restart the program.

An error log is being created.”

4.) “OpenOffice.org is already installed in the C:\Program
Files\OpenOffice.org1.0 directory.

Use the local setup program to deinstall. In order to reinstall OpenOffice.org
1.0 you can restart this setup program.”

5.) “Soffice.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will
need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.”

6.) “The application cannot be started. The configuration service is not
available. Start the setup application to repair the installation from the CD
of the folder containing the installation packages.”

7.) “See Item #1 which occurred on the second attempt to install or remove the
program I received the aforementioned error.”

Hope that this helps the troubleshooting,
Sean Combs

Hi Sean,
please remove you damaged Ooo 1.0 installation. In your applicattion
data must be a sversion.ini and an user60.rdb, delete this files.
Please retry with OOo 1.0.1.

Hello again:

As a follow-up to my problem of installing Open Office 1.0.0 for
Windows 2000, I have now downloaded, burned to a CD and attempted to
install Open Office 1.0.1. ARGHHHHH, it still doesn't want to install
properly!!!

I selected the standard single-user installation without Java for my
personal IBM Thinkpad A21e laptop. I closed all APPS and turned off
Virus protection, removed the following files as recommended before
running the installation:

sversion.ini AND user60.rdb.

After unzipping the program and running the SETUP program, the
installer first asked if I wanted to replace some files which were
already installed from the previous attempt to install 1.0.0. I
selected "Yes."

However during the installation I received the following error during
the CREATING LOCAL SETTINGS phase:

"setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You
will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created."

I tried to restart the program, but received the same error. I
restarted the machine and got the same results.

This error also occurs when attempting to open any of the components
of Open Office too.

Using ADD/REMOVE generates the following error:

"The installation program cannot find the script in which a... (the
rest of the message is cut off and not included within the

ERROR window). The file was looked for in the following directory.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MAPI\1033\nt\set

The installation program cannot be executed without this file, it
will no...(the rest of the text is cut off and not included within
the ERROR window)."

When I try to run the SETUP program it gives the error:

"OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 is already installed in the C:\Program
Files\Open Office.org1.0.1 directory.

Use the local setup program to deinstall. In order to reinstall
OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 you can restart this setup program."

When I select Open Office.org Setup from START\Programs, I receive
the following error:

"The installation program cannot find the script file in which all of
the instructions required for installation have been saved. The file
was looked for in the following directory.

C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1.0.1\program\setup.inf

The installation program cannot be executed without this file, it
will now be terminated."

So how can I remove what the installation program installed since I
can't use the local setup to do it? What happens when I remove the
sversion.ini file this time? As well as the other file that you had
mentioned? Where is the ERROR log located? What is the file called?

Nowhere in the README file does it explain how to remove the Open
Office program and its components in the event that the SETUP.EXE
fails to run/deinstall under Windows 2000. Has Open Office been
successfully installed on a Windows 2000 laptop?

Keeping my fingers crossed,
SC

This package still does not install properly.

Due to this fact, it won't allow the option of being removed either!

Hi reporter,
thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Does this problem still exist in OOo 1.0.3?

Did you find other issues which might be related to oyur problem?

If I will not see any further action as votes, attachments or
