Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 71238
Protected frames still deletable
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:25:48 UTC
To reproduce the problem, you have to do the following: 1. insert a frame in a new document 2. protect the frame (contents, position, size) 3. deselect the frame 4. select the frame again by clicking on it und press "del" Though the content of the frame is protected, the frame itself can be deleted and with it, its content. There is no way of protecting the frame itself, wether you want the content be protected or not. There is a workaround for some occasions: Put the anchor of the frame in a section and protect the section. Now the frame can't be edited in any way. This is not working, if you need the content of the frame to be changeable, without using text fields or if you can't insert a protected section due to styling reasons. I think a forth option besides "contents", "position", "size" that allows one to protect the frame itself from being deleted would be a good solution.
Confirming with 2.0.4 - no way to disable deletion of frame.
MRU->OD: To me it also sounds a bit more intuitive when a frame's content is protected (by the frame's properties) the frame iself shoud also not be deletable.
SBA: All 3 protect options (contents, position, size) should include a protection against deletion.
SBA: Note that a "fourth option" would be a UI change, thus needing a specification, translation, documentation and a test case. And making the entire issue a "Feature" (a small one, though).
Can the priority been raised? This issue is a big problem when creating templates for business purposes. (Note: In the OOo Novell Edition the deletion by using the Del-Key of such frames is disabled. They are still deleteable using the navigator.)
