Description corigo 2006-11-10 08:12:17 UTC
I set an image with Type - Position - Vertical: Top - to: Paragraph text area.
Then I move the image from it's current position to a new position in the same
line and it is automatically reset to: Type - Position - Vertical: From Top -
to: Margin. Why?!?

I also updated the default style of Graphics to match my settings and this
still happens. It is very hard to integrate images with lines, far too many
settings, and the settings keep changing from underneath me without my doing
anything other than trying to place the image where it belongs.

If you move the graphic manually a user defined position must by assigned to the
position attributes of the graphic. This is described by the property "From top".
This won't be possible to solve different.

The user already defined the position attribute as top to Paragraph text. If
move from one paragraph to the next it should not matter that I am moving it
manually (the only way there is to move it into position in the first place),
it should still align itself to the paragraph as per my instructions.

It works like this...

1) I bring a graphic into my page.
2) I position it in the correct place in the text
3) My graphic has lost the Position settings, because I moved it into place
4) ergo this is a bug. There was no other way to get the graphic into position
other than to move it there, but by doing so OOo removed my positioning
instructions, e.g. this graphic aligns with the text.

The problem would be, if someone moves a graphic, he wants it to be in the
position where he "drops" it. If you have the position "Top of paragraph" all
the time, the user won't be able to move the graphic downwards - it would always
jump back to top of paragraph, because the attribute "top of paragraph" is kind
of "fix". That would not be intuitive...
What is your opinion about this?
Comment 5 corigo 2006-11-10 16:23:21 UTC
The way I see it is this:
1) The default Graphic style is just as you say
2) If I change the style to Position top of paragraph, and I drag and move the
graphic, it should rebound to the Top of the Paragraph of the Paragraph it has
been dragged to.
--So if I've changed the style from the default to Top paragraph, even if I
drag it to another place on the page, which ever paragraph I drag it to it
should align itself to, it is I who chose to change the alignment so it is
obvious that I don't want the image associated back to the margin.

Changing to "Enhancement" as long as this is a request to changed a defined
behaviour in Writer.
Reassigning to "requirements" for decision.

It is unreasonable to expect old settings to apply after moving the image.
Instead 1) apply settings 2) move image
one should 1) move image 2) apply settings
