Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 73026
Freeze When Saving
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:31:33 UTC
Sometimes (not always) after I click the button to save a file that had already been saved before and this is just writing over, the progress bar at the bottom moves unusually slowly regardless of file size and the button I clicked to save remains highlighted. After the the progress bar finishes, the save button remains highlighted and soffice.bin starts hogging the processor, 100% if I don't do anything else (according to Activity Monitor). At this point the application is frozen. I've given it time, up to 20 minutes to see if things will eventually resolve but I eventually have to quit X11 to end it. The machine as a whole still operates and I don't have to reboot or anything. Next time I run OOo the error reporter comes up to restore the file (all it ends up doing is "recovering" the file as it was before my changes and the actual error report never comes up. I've never had this problem with any prvevious versions (since 2.0.1)
MRU->JSI: could you please have a look on MacOS? I cannot reproduce this on Win or Linux. Thanks a lot!
Ok, I think, in fact I'm pretty sure this is related to issue #69143 which was about OOo being able to open files with strange characters in the pathname. The files that were causing the problems are all located in locations with apostrophes ( ' ) or ( / ) in the pathname. i.e. in folders named "Mo' Stuff" or "D/L Docs". OOo can now open files with such pathnames, which is what 69143 was about, but is having trouble saving to them.

I recently installed version 2.1 on Tiger (PowerPC G4) and have been having exactly the same problem listed here. I am frequently working with directories exported (NFS) from a Linux server, and I note that there was (is?) an issue with NFS networked files. I am not sure that these are related, as the original poster of this issue does not mention NFS. This problem does not happen every time I save, but unfortunately, often enough that it makes the program virtually unusable on the Mac. I also want to note that the saves are to paths that are 'nice', i.e., not containing any confusing characters. I hope this can be resolved because I would love to use OOo on my Mac. I would also love to help in this, so please contact me if I can provide any more information. Cheers!
Since updating to 2.2, I have not seen this issue anymore. I don't pretend to know what this means; was it a 2.1 hiccup? something wrong on my machine? or have I not been running 2.2 long enough (1 week or so)?
I have never seen this bug on a 2.3.0 or heigher. So I think, it's solved, and I will close this issue as worksforme Thanks!
